Starting Saturday, March 22nd, Rocket League will implement a major change to its in-game virtual currency system by replacing Esports Tokens with Credits. This transition aims to simplify the purchasing experience across the Item Shop and the Esports Shop, completely changing the way players interact with the game’s economy.

Key Details of the Transition

  1. Timeline and Implementation:
    • The replacement of Esports Tokens with Credits will occur on April 22, 2025, at 4 PM PT.
    • As of today, March 21, 2025, Esports Tokens are no longer available for purchase.
  2. Conversion Process:
    • Players holding Esports Tokens on April 22 will have their balance automatically converted into Credits.
    • The conversion rate varies by country. For example, in the United States, 1 Esports Token equals 0.9881 Credits.
    • After conversion, players will receive a 10% boost to their Credit total, rounded up to the nearest multiple of 50. For instance, if a player in the U.S. has 1,200 Esports Tokens, they will receive 1,350 Credits after applying the boost and rounding adjustments.
  3. Unified Currency:
    • Credits will become the sole currency for all transactions in both the Item Shop and the newly renamed RLCS Shop (formerly the Esports Shop). This change eliminates the need for separate currencies for different shop types.

Enhancements to the RLCS Shop

The rebranded RLCS Shop will debut on April 22 with exciting new content:

  • Universal Decals: These decals represent teams competing in RLCS 2025 and can be applied to any car body except those tied to third-party intellectual property.
  • Takeover Goal Explosions: These goal explosions will also represent RLCS teams.

Future content in the RLCS Shop will exclusively require Credits for purchases.

Historical Context

The shift from Esports Tokens to Credits is not unprecedented. In December 2019, Rocket League replaced loot boxes and keys with a Blueprint system that also utilized Credits as its premium currency. At that time, Esports Tokens remained as a separate currency exclusively for esports-related purchases. This latest change consolidates all virtual currency transactions under one system.

The replacement of Esports Tokens with Credits represents a significant evolution in Rocket League’s virtual economy. By unifying currencies and introducing new RLCS-themed content, Psyonix aims to enhance both player experience and support for esports teams.
