Riot Games has announced an upcoming adjustment in price for virtual currencies (RP, VP, LoR Coins, Wild Cores, etc.) across their games in several regional servers.

The magnitude of these changes will vary greatly between regions, with the most affected being Brazil, Turkey, Ukraine and South East Asia.

The updated prices will be out starting September 18th and will affect currency prices for League of Legends, VALORANT, Teamfight Tactics, Legends of Runeterra and League of Legends: Wild Rift.

Riot offering extra bonuses for affected regions

For all regions in which prices are set to go up, however, Riot will be offering extra bonus virtual currency on in-client purchases. These extra bonuses will be going on live on September 4th, 9:00 AM PST for most of the affected regions, with the Korean, Taiwanese and Japanese servers having their own separate timelines.

In their announcement, Riot listed the following as an example of these extra bonuses: in VALORANT, the 2050 VP bundle (which usually includes 1900 VP + 150 bonus) will now give you 300 bonus VP, making it a total of 2200 VP.

On the Korean server, an additional 10% promo will run from September 4 at 9:00 AM PST (September 5, 1:00 AM KST) until the price change on September 22 at 8:00 AM PST (September 23, 00:00 AM KST).

For players on the Taiwan server, a Double Bonus Promo will be available from September 19 at 9:00 AM PST (September 20, 00:00 AM GMT+8) until the price change takes effect on October 3 at 9:00 AM PST (October 4, 00:00 AM GMT+8).

As for the Japan server, the dates for the price change and Double Bonus Promo will be announced later on local game social channels.

A necessary set of changes

The changes in pricing of their virtual currencies across all five of their live games, Riot argues, are necessary due to global economic shifts and fluctuating exchange rates.

These updates aim to balance prices more consistently between regions, reducing the opportunities for third-party exploitation, which often involves purchasing currency in regions with lower prices and reselling it elsewhere.

Although some players in regions with significant price increases may find the adjustments challenging, Riot emphasized that the changes are essential to maintain fairness across the player base and curb currency manipulation.

Given that currencies for gift cards and codes are also set to be updated, Riot encourages players in regions where prices are set to go up to redeem their codes soon in order to get the best value possible before the changes go live.

Additionally, Riot is using this opportunity to standardize currency bundles across regions to create more consistency, such as making the 1380 RP bundle available in all regions for League of Legends PC.
