In what could be one of the biggest transfers in Counter-Strike history, Russian AWP prodigy Ilya "m0NESY" Osipov is reportedly set to join Team Falcons in the coming weeks, according to CS journalist neL. This blockbuster move would reunite m0NESY with former teammate Nikola "NiKo" Kovač in what is shaping up to be one of the most ambitious roster projects in esports.

The Falcons Super Team Takes Shape

The Saudi-backed organization has been aggressively building what could turn out to be a terrifying squad. Earlier this year, Falcons secured NiKo after his four-year stint with G2 Esports, alongside Danish veteran Emil "Magisk" Reif and former Heroic members Damjan "kyxsan" Stoilkovski, Abdulkhalik "degster" Gasanov, and René "TeSeS" Madsen.

With m0NESY's addition, degster would reportedly be the odd man out, creating a formidable lineup featuring:

  • Damjan "kyxsan" Stoilkovski
  • Emil "Magisk" Reif
  • René "TeSeS" Madsen
  • Nikola "NiKo" Kovač
  • Ilya "m0NESY" Osipov

G2's Calculated Risk Backfires

G2's decision to retain m0NESY in December despite initial transfer interest now appears to have backfired dramatically. The organization chose to build around the young Russian star following NiKo's departure in a risky move, with m0NESY having only one year remaining on his contract at the time.

Despite bringing in Israeli talent Nikita "HeavyGod" Martynenko, G2's recent tournament performances have been disappointing. The team has failed to secure top-4 finishes in their last three tournaments, despite m0NESY continuing to perform at an elite level individually. These struggles have reportedly confirmed the AWPer's desire to move elsewhere, with Falcons' persistent interest finally convincing him to make the switch.

The timing is particularly painful for G2, as they now stand to lose their second superstar in a matter of months, potentially receiving far less compensation than they might have secured had they agreed to a transfer when NiKo departed.

Historic Transfer Implications

If confirmed, this would represent the largest transfer in Counter-Strike history, with neL describing it as a "multi-million dollar deal." The move cements Falcons' position as a major power player in the esports landscape, demonstrating their willingness to invest unprecedented sums to build a championship-caliber roster.

The organization has already shown promise with a top-2 finish at PGL Cluj-Napoca, though they exited early at IEM Katowice. Such mixed results are to be expected from a newly formed team, but m0NESY's addition significantly raises the ceiling for what this roster can achieve.

What's Next for Both Organizations

For G2, losing both NiKo and m0NESY within months leaves a massive void in the team's firepower and identity. The organization now faces the challenging task of rebuilding without their two biggest stars. Finding an AWPer of m0NESY's caliber will be particularly difficult in the current market, potentially forcing G2 to develop new talent or pursue a complete roster overhaul.

Falcons, meanwhile, appear determined to challenge the established hierarchy of Counter-Strike 2. The combination of NiKo and m0NESY provides them with two of the game's most mechanically gifted players, while Magisk brings championship experience and stability. If kyxsan can effectively lead this collection of stars, Falcons could quickly become title contenders at every event they attend.

The move is expected to be finalized before the upcoming Austin Major, giving Falcons time to integrate m0NESY into their system as they look to challenge for championships with their new superstar lineup. For Counter-Strike fans, the prospect of seeing NiKo and m0NESY reunited under the Falcons banner creates one of the most intriguing storylines of the 2025 season.
