League of Legends players have something to celebrate with the release of patch 25.06, coming March 19th, 2025. Riot Games is now officially introducing the Ranked Rollback system, a feature designed to refund League Points (LP) lost in matches where opponents were confirmed to be cheating. This long-awaited feature aims to create a fairer competitive environment by ensuring players don't suffer LP losses due to unfair gameplay.

Through Riot Vanguard, the company's anti-cheat system, League of Legends has significantly improved its ability to detect cheaters. When the system identifies that a player lost a ranked match to a cheater, it will automatically refund the LP once the cheater is suspended. Players will receive an immediate notification (or upon their next login) detailing when the match occurred, how much LP has been credited, and their updated rank status.

How the LP Refund Works

The implementation of the LP refund system is straightforward and fully automated. When Vanguard determines that a player has lost a ranked game to a cheater, the system will automatically process the LP refund once the cheater is suspended. The beauty of this system lies in its automation – from cheater detection to LP refund, everything happens without the need for player intervention.

It's important to note that Riot won't remove LP from players who inadvertently won with a cheater on their team. The focus is solely on restoring LP to those who suffered losses. However, Riot has made it clear that accounts found intentionally and repeatedly queuing with cheaters – a practice known as "hitchhiking" or "bussing" – will face bans along with the cheaters themselves.

Reporter Feedback Feature

Alongside the LP refund system, Riot is introducing another valuable feature: reporter feedback. The Vanguard team heavily relies on in-game reports to direct their attention to suspicious players. To maintain this feedback loop, players will now receive notifications when their reports lead to confirmed cheater detections.

This addition serves two purposes: it validates players' efforts in reporting suspicious behavior and provides satisfaction in knowing when justice has been served. The notification system helps players understand that their reports make a difference in maintaining game integrity.

The Ongoing Fight Against Cheaters

While the LP refund system significantly improves player experience, Riot acknowledges that it doesn't solve the underlying issue of cheating. The company continues its fight against one of gaming's most persistent problems through constant updates to Vanguard.

With the introduction of Vanguard, hundreds of thousands of cheaters have been banned across Riot Games titles. In January 2025, Vanguard reached a record of 7 suspensions per minute during a particularly aggressive anti-cheat campaign. Despite these efforts, the battle against cheating remains ongoing.

The Ranked Rollback system, which has been recently added to VALORANT as well, represents a significant step forward in creating a more equitable competitive environment for all players across Riot Games titles, ensuring that skill rather than unfair advantages determines the outcome of matches.
