Gen.G lift their 4th successive LCK Championship after a close series win against T1 in the 2024 LCK Spring Playoffs Grand Finals.

Their victory also secures them the first seed from the LCK heading into MSI 2024, however, both teams will be in attendance.

Despite a dynamic shift for Gen.G, seeing three of their five players change during the off-season, they began and ended their spring season with no less strength than in previous times.

Moreover, despite difficulties in practicing, T1 have managed to secure themselves another international appearance, and a chance to extend their international dominance after their Worlds 2023 victory last year.

Setting the Stage

T1 and Gen.G face off once again in the LCK Playoffs finals. This makes both team’s 5th consecutive matchup and T1’s 4th consecutive loss to Gen.G in the Grand Finals.

For Gen.G, their tale was one of rebuilding and regrowth. Their dominance in 2023 in the LCK was nothing short of incredible. Despite that, once more, their international runs left much to be desired each time.

It seemed almost like they could not recapture their mindset of domestic dominance when standing on the higher stage.

After Worlds 2023, Gen.G went through a period of rebuilding, leaving only Chovy and Peyz from their former roster.

In their stead, three new players entered the fold and Gen.G once more rose to the occasion in the LCK, only losing a single series in the Spring Split.

In T1’s case, they experienced struggles since long before the start of the Spring Split and shortly after their off-season had concluded, with regular DDoS attacks not permitting the members to practice in any meaningful sense for long stretches of time.

Thankfully, T1 was able to rally back and still make the Grand Finals despite suffering a devastating loss at the hands of Hanwha Life earlier in Playoffs.

T1 vs Gen.G: A Game of Inches

Close contention between Gen.G and T1 in the Grand Finals as they traded blow-for-blow in the Bo5. Gen.G had the initial 1-0 lead, before T1 replied with 2 wins straight to threaten series point. Gen.G managed to reply, however, forcing Silver Scrapes and eventually a comeback victory for their side.

Bold picks for Gen.G in Game 1 saw the Rumble – Corki pairing dominate the later teamfights. Despite T1’s strong engage composition, Zeus’ Aatrox and Keria’s Poppy had little opportunity to fully engage on them. Moreover, despite Faker’s best efforts on the Azir, it was not enough to change the tides of the match.

In Game 2, it was a story of the botlane. Superb piloting of the Neeko from Keria as well as a carry performance from Gumayusi secured the endgame, despite the best efforts from Chovy’s Aurelion Sol.

Game 3 was prime T1 performance, with all laners operating at max efficiency, leaving their Gen.G opposite quite literally in the dust as Oner and Faker especially, got off to a strong start. Moreover, Zeus on the Zac displayed the perfect answer into Kiin’s Rek’Sai.

Coming into Game 4, however, Chovy brought back out the Aurelion Sol. This time, the dragon was unchallenged as Gen.G dominated the mid-game teamfights, including heavy dives on the top side against Zeus’ Gwen, leading to a dominant finish for Gen.G.

Into Game 5, this time the Annie Support pick allowed Gen.G to secure an early top side presence, taking a kill off of Oner’s Xin Zhao early in the game. Kiin’s crucial performance on the K’Sante was also immaculate, securing two solo kills against Zeus’ Zac which led to a devastating snowball victory for Gen.G, closing out the series.
