In a shocking turn of events at the BLAST Open Spring Lisbon 2025, FaZe Clan suffered a surprising defeat at the hands of Virtus.pro in their opening match of the tournament. The CIS squad, ranked #11 in the world, overcame the #8 ranked FaZe in a thrilling best-of-three series that concluded with a devastating 13-0 in favor of VP on the final map.

Map 1: Anubis - FaZe Takes Early Lead

FaZe Clan started strong on Anubis, securing a 16-12 victory in the opening map. David "frozen" Čerňanský led the charge for FaZe with an impressive 25 kills and a 1.42 rating, showing why he remains one of the team's most consistent performers.

Despite solid performances from electroNic and fame on the Virtus.pro side, FaZe's teamwork and tactical approach gave them the edge in the series opener.

Map 2: Ancient - Virtus.pro Strikes Back

The second map saw Virtus.pro evening the series with a 16-13 win on Ancient. FL4MUS was the standout player for VP, delivering a dominant performance with 30 kills and an exceptional 1.62 rating. Despite Håvard "rain" Nygaard's valiant efforts for FaZe with 22 kills and a 1.18 rating, Virtus.pro's superior coordination and mid-round adjustments proved decisive in forcing the series to a third map.

Map 3: Dust2 - Complete Domination

The decider map on Dust2 turned into a nightmare for FaZe Clan as Virtus.pro delivered a flawless 13-0 performance. VP's FL1T and FL4MUS were unstoppable, posting ratings of 2.09 and 2.00 respectively, while the entire VP lineup outclassed their opponents in every aspect of the game. FaZe looked completely lost, with none of their players able to make a significant impact as VP secured the terribly one-sided map, humiliating FaZe to start the tournament.

Karrigan's Struggles Continue

FaZe's in-game leader Finn "karrigan" Andersen had another disappointing showing, finishing the series with a disappointing 0.74 rating across all three maps. His performance on the final map was particularly concerning, managing just 6 kills with a 0.45 rating as his team failed to secure a single round. This continues a worrying trend for the veteran shot-caller, who has been struggling to find his form in recent tournaments.

At 34 years old, questions about karrigan's future in the lineup are becoming increasingly difficult to ignore. His individual performance has been declining, and today's match highlighted the growing gap between his output and that of younger talents in the scene. While his strategic mind remains valuable, his inability to win crucial duels is becoming a liability for a FaZe team with championship aspirations.

What This Means for Both Teams

This upset victory gives Virtus.pro a significant boost in the BLAST Open Spring Lisbon 2025 Group A upper bracket, while FaZe now faces a challenging path through the lower bracket.

With the tournament running from March 19 to March 30 across Lisbon and Copenhagen with a $400,000 prize pool, both teams still have everything to play for.

For FaZe, this loss raises serious questions about their consistency and form heading into the rest of the tournament. Meanwhile, Virtus.pro will look to build on this momentum as they continue their campaign in the upper bracket of Group A.

CS2 Major Revenue Share Changes Are Pushing Organizations Away from Counter-Strike

Valve’s new CS2 Major revenue share ties sticker income to VRS and final placement, removing capsule‑style payouts and concentrating money among top finishers. The result: higher volatility for clubs that relied on sticker cheques, early roster cuts like Gaimin Gladiators, and a narrower field of sustainable CS2 organizations unless the payout model changes.
