After becoming the sole Western team to make it through to the playoffs, G2 Esports proved they still have a long way to go if they want to compete with some of the best Asian teams in the scene. In the Quarterfinals, the LEC champions were no match for Top Esports, who sent G2 home with a swift 3-1 victory.

G2 Stand No Chance

Coming into Worlds 2025, all Westerns hopes were placed on FlyQuest and G2. With the LTA squad failing to make it past the Swiss Stage, it all came down to G2. Unfortunately for them, though, their Quarterfinals match proved to be quite the reality check.

Their rivals, Top Esports, hadn't shown the best form leading to the match after only just making it through the Swiss Stage with a 3-2 record. For both teams, this bout would be a rematch of their very first match at Worlds, where TES was able to come out ahead. G2, however, went on to make it out of the Swiss Stage without losing a single match after that, and were feeling good about their chances in a rematch.

In the end, TES demonstrated just how far ahead they really are, dominating their Quarterfinals bout right from the get-go. While G2 did show signs of life by taking Game 2 and evening out the series for a moment, a single win was all they could ultimately muster.

Despite the setback, TES stampeded to a 3-1 victory while showcasing an enormous superiority over G2. In the three games that they won, the total kill count was 54-15 in favor of the LPL side, allowing G2 no say in their elimination from the tournament.

Now it's onto Anyone's Legend vs T1 to decide who the last Semifinalist at Worlds 2025 is going to be.

A Growing Canyon: The West Falters

Between the LTA and the LEC, the West sent a total of six League of Legends teams to Worlds 2025. Of those, only G2 was able to qualify to playoffs. What's more, G2 and 100 Thieves proved to be the only teams capable of taking a game off an LCK/LPL side (both against BLG).

With G2's elimination at the hands of Top Esports, it will be six year since the last time a Western team made it to the Semifinals at Worlds (2020). Back then, it was none other than G2 themselves who took down Gen.G in the Quarterfinals to secure themselves a top 4 finish. Those days, however, are long gone.

Now, it's time for Western teams to go back to the drawing board and start planning the 2026 season in advance if they have any hopes of becoming a real threat on the international stage once more.
