Deimos is an Attacker in Rainbow Six Siege, introduced in Operation Deadly Omen. His real name is Gerald Morris, a former Rainbow operator turned enemy. Once respected, he’s now known for orchestrating deadly missions and betraying the team he once served.

Deimos is not just another operator. He plays a central role in the game’s evolving story. His actions have caused major shifts inside Rainbow.

Early Life and Background

Gerald Morris was born in Birmingham, Alabama. He came from a stable home with a father who sold furniture and a mother who stayed home. After graduating as valedictorian, he later studied at Rice University, earning degrees in Material Science and Russian Literature.

He joined the ATF in 1988, focusing on explosives. He took a leave in the early 90s to complete a master's degree in chemistry. His thesis became a key reference for forensic bomb analysis.

After returning, he worked with international teams, especially in South Korea, training counter-terror units. His experience made him a natural fit for Rainbow.

Joining Rainbow

In 1999, John Clark recruited Morris for Rainbow. He served under Ding Chavez and was active in key operations. These included stopping eco-terrorists in Operation Mystic Tiger and dealing with nuclear threats in Operation Zero Gambit.

He was skilled, loyal, and followed orders. He specialized in demolitions and was known for being thorough and exact.

Going Rogue

Things changed in 2012. While on a mission in Eastern Europe, Morris faced a situation where he had to defuse a bomb. He chose to kill the bomb maker and his teammate instead. His reasoning: the bomb maker had caused other attacks, and he no longer trusted the system.

Morris faked his death in the explosion and disappeared. Over time, he created a mercenary group called the Keres Legion. He started working against Rainbow from the shadows and took on the name Deimos.

The War Against Rainbow

Deimos began targeting Rainbow’s reputation. He stole gear from Nighthaven and used it to assassinate Masayuki Yahata. The goal was to make it look like Nighthaven was behind the attack.

As Rainbow investigated, they were misled and almost wiped out in a trap. Deimos used Thermite’s body camera to let Rainbow Director Harry Pandey watch the ambush unfold. He then killed Harry, blaming him for weakening Rainbow’s original values.

Deimos didn’t stop there. He escaped from an aircraft mid-battle, forced Rainbow to chase him into a rigged facility in Brazil, and later coordinated a deadly helicopter attack in South Korea. Each step weakened Rainbow’s team and morale.

Capture and Return

Eventually, Rainbow traced Deimos back to a cargo ship and then a hidden cave base in Portugal. While they couldn’t stop all of his plans, they gained key intel about his next target: a black-site meeting at Emerald Plains.

Deimos launched a direct attack on the black site in February 2024. But Rainbow was ready. Operatives Mira, Doc, Rook, and Zero managed to fight back. Rook’s upgraded armor saved them from fatal shots, and they captured Deimos alive.

Assault on Hereford

After his capture, Deimos was held at Rainbow HQ. But the threat wasn’t over. Members of his Keres Legion, disguised as recruits, launched an attack led by a new figure named Phobos. This event showed that even behind bars, Deimos’s influence was still strong.

Gameplay Overview

deimos-in-rainbow-six-siege

Deimos is a 2-speed, 2-health attacker who uses his gadget, the DeathMARK, to reveal a defender’s location. When he marks a target, both he and the defender see each other’s positions. This forces direct confrontation.

During this tracking phase, Deimos switches to his .44 Vendetta revolver. It’s powerful and can shoot through walls. He can’t use his main weapon during tracking.

Loadout

Primary Weapons:

  • AK-74M (Assault Rifle)

  • M590A1 (Shotgun)

Secondary:

  • .44 Vendetta (Revolver – only usable during DeathMARK)

Gadgets:

  • Frag Grenade x2

  • Hard Breach Charge x2

How DeathMARK Works

Deimos starts with one DeathMARK and gains more as the match progresses. He can’t use it until he scans or identifies a defender. Once used, the DeathMARK pings the defender live on Deimos’s HUD and gives a delayed ping to the defender.

The ability lasts around 20–30 seconds and can be cancelled. Cooldowns apply between uses.

Synergies and Counters

Best Synergies

Deimos works well with operators who gather intel:

  • Jackal (tracks footprints)

  • Lion (tracks movement)

  • Zero and Dokkaebi (camera and phone hacks)

These operators help him spot enemies, making it easier to lock onto a target.

Counters to Deimos

Some operators can avoid or interrupt the DeathMARK:

  • Vigil: Disrupts tracking completely with his ERC-7.

  • Mute: Signal Jammers block tracking zones.

  • Tubarão: His Zoto Cannisters stop DeathMARK temporarily.

If defenders hide before being identified, Deimos can’t target them. EMPs from bulletproof cameras also cancel active DeathMARKs.

Psychological Impact

Deimos’s return hit Rainbow hard. Many operatives once looked up to him. His betrayal shook their trust.

After his capture, squad leaders like Hibana debated whether he should be involved in future missions to get intel. While risky, some believe he may hold the key to stopping his network.

Trivia and Facts

  • “Deimos” comes from Greek mythology, meaning dread or terror.

  • He collects blues records and antique memorabilia.

  • His mask obsession is clear from his office in the map Lair.

  • His bio includes past missions from older Rainbow Six games.

  • His gadget, DeathMARK, is inspired by real-life drones like the PD-100 Black Hornet.

Final Thoughts

Deimos in Rainbow Six Siege is more than an operator—he’s a major piece of the game’s story. His betrayal, tactics, and design make him a unique threat in both gameplay and lore.

Facing Deimos means dealing with a skilled enemy who knows Rainbow inside out. Whether in battle or in story, he continues to challenge what the team stands for.
