DPC bans

Due to recent map hack allegations and match-fixing, Perfect World and Valve decided to take action. This is not the first time the Chinese region has been accused of such actions. But this is the first time a large-scale ban has taken place. With 46 Chinese players out of the tournament, the Chinese DPC is struggling with the loss of 2 Division I teams. With their poor performance in the Lima Major, these bans are just adding salt to the wounds.

These are the teams removed from the tournament:

  • Antarctic Penguins (previously Knights)
  • EHOME
  • Solitude (previously Dawn Gaming)
  • Kylin Esports Club (previously LBZS)
  • Team Mystique

Tour 2 line-up

A few last minute changes were made to make up for the loss of 2 Div I teams. Aster.Aries & Dawn Gaming were relegated to Division II. But due to the bans, Aster.Aries kept its spot in Div I, replacing Knights. And Outsiders From CN, the team that was 3rd in Div II, replaced EHOME. This is what the Division I of Chinese DPC looks like in the second Tour,

  • PSG.LGD
  • Team Aster
  • Xtreme Gaming
  • Invictus Gaming
  • Aster.Aries
  • Ybb Gaming
  • Vici Gaming
  • Outsiders From CN

Division II holds only two teams for now,

  • Poke Gaming
  • Meteor Gaming

The Open Qualifiers that commences on 13th March, will determine the remaining six spots.

Aftermath

Many of the banned players were part of the DPC. This raises a lot of questions even though Valve and Perfect World are taking action. Poor performance coupled with these bans, many feel other regions should be given a better chance. China currently takes up 4 qualifying spots at the Major. Let's hope that the remaining teams can prove us wrong or that Valve makes a change.
