After being plagued with multiple production issues in the last couple of weeks, Beyond the Summit DPC has finally been called in to save the day. This news comes after the shock announcement that BTS would be covering noDota 2 pro leagues in 2023. It’s also a welcome relief for a lot of fans. They have paid the price for the lack of professionalism in the existing production of SA Dota.

Beyond The Summit DPC Returns in South America

Beyond the Summit DPC History - A Cornerstone of Pro Dota

Beyond the Summit is an organizer that has played a key role in most DPC leagues almost since inception. Back in October, it was announced via Twitter that not only would BTS not be producing this year’s DPC. The BTS co-founder David Gorman confirmed in a tweet that “..it’s unclear if we’ll be doing any Dota content moving forward”.

Valve made no official announcements as to why they chose not to move into 2023 with Beyond the Summit DPC. It was particularly unclear as BTS were one of the few organizers that consistently worked with division 2 team. This gave them a platform not afforded by other companies.

Dota in South America - A huge leap forward

South America has certainly been the most up and coming region of the last few years. With teams such as Thunder Awaken and beastcoast making it all the way TI, it seems that South American players are here to stay! Not only that but teams that have struggled in other regions, including NA’s Evil Geniuses and Europe’s Alliance have moved their rosters to this region.

In fact, the Lima Major will be the first S-tier Dota event to take place in South America. Despite speculations about its cancellation, the fans’ eagerness to purchase tickets speaks for itself.

Having said that, however, it seems that the same care and passion has not been brought to the production of the DPC in SA. Week 1, which only began on January 10th, has had a multitude of problems. Initially, the English broadcast was owned by the European Pro League. However, it was announced that it has officially been transferred to BTSBrazil after just 5 days. Fans will surely be pleased to hear this due to the Beyond the Summit DPC reputation for excellent content.

The Lima Major 2023

The first Major of the year is currently due to take place at the end of February. Organizers 4D Esports and Epulze have hopefully learned their lesson from the DPC debacle. They'll need to bring top production quality to the tournament. Although they have been producing Dota tournaments in SA for some time now, this will be the first of this calibre. The Beyond the Summit DPC will undoubtedly set a high standard going forward so fans can only hope that this will be carried into a successful Major. Who knows, perhaps this could lead to more Majors or even a TI based in South America.
