The Bali Major group stage ended yesterday after five days of highly skilled Dota. Shopify Rebellion and Azure Ray have managed to keep their Major dreams alive after a brutal round of tie-breakers. With this, the 18 teams are reduced to 12, moving to playoffs.

Eliminated Teams

The six teams eliminated are,

  • Blacklist International
  • Execration
  • Bleed Esports
  • Evil Geniuses
  • Nouns
  • Invictus Gaming

The Bali Major is the first major tournament for Blacklist, Bleed, and Nouns. It could be a learning experience for these teams on the current meta and skills of other regions especially when this close to TI12.

SEA Region Eliminated

It is shocking to see an entire region get eliminated during the groups. Bleed, Execration, and Blacklist managed to take out Talon Esports to get to the Major. Bleed & Blacklist was able to win at least one series, while Execration, a much more experienced team, struggled to do that.

Even though Talon Esports struggled in regional qualifiers, they excelled while playing against other regions. You could see this when they recently placed 4th in DreamLeague Season 20 after being eliminated by Gaimin Gladiators.

This could be a wake-up call for the SEA region, on the whole, to figure out their mistakes and focus on The International.

Evil Geniuses

EG's elimination surprised fans since they have been one of the consistent teams this DPC season. Placing 3rd in the DPC Ranking, this was not the expected result from the Bali Major. Either the team is having a tough time understanding the current playstyle, or they plan to focus on TI12. What do you think?

Playoffs

The Western EU region has dominated the group stage of the Bali Major. With all four teams in the Upper Bracket, it will be nothing less than amazing. With the conclusion of the group stage, the playoffs will continue on July 5th. The first match on the main stage will be Team Liquid against PSG.LGD. It will take place at 4 AM CET.
