In a groundbreaking announcement, Chinese tournament organizer Perfect World has confirmed that Asia will host its first-ever Counter-Strike Major. The prestigious event is set to take place in Shanghai at the end of 2024, marking a significant milestone for the region's esports scene.

Historic Moment for Counter Strike in Asia

Perfect World, known for publishing versions of the game in China, boasts a rich history in hosting esports tournaments. Including the CS Asia Championships and the Legend Series dating back to 2017. Their expertise extends to Dota 2, with notable tournaments like the Dota Shanghai Major in 2016 and the Asia Championships and the Supermajor in 2018.

The revelation came on Nov. 12 via X (formerly Twitter), as Perfect World disclosed its plans to bring the pinnacle event of Counter Strike to the vibrant city of Shanghai. This marks a historic moment, as never before has a Major been held in China or the broader Asia-Pacific region. Rumors about a Chinese-bound Major had been circulating since July, and now it seems these speculations have materialized.

Shanghai Major Details Unveiled

The announcement was strategically timed just before the grand final of the CS2 Asia Championships. Where FaZe Clan faced off against MOUZ. While the exact dates for the Shanghai Major are yet to be disclosed, it is believed to occur in mid-December. With the RMR qualification system starting in late October.

Despite concerns about unfavorable time zones, the announcement of an Asian Major is anticipated to significantly benefit Counter Strike in the region. The return to offline tournaments and the launch of CS2 have already heightened interest in the area. Hosting a Major locally is poised to further amplify the game's impact in China and surrounding areas.

While specific details about the Shanghai Major are yet to be revealed, Perfect World has promised to unveil more information in the coming months. This monumental event is set to shape the future landscape of CS2 in Asia.
