LØS Sends LYON Packing From EWC 2026

The Esports World Cup 2026 League of Legends group stage just delivered a rough gut punch for LYON. The LCS side, fresh off one of the best runs of its history at MSI, was swept 2-0 by LØS (competing under MIBR.LOS) in Group D, ending its run at the Esports World Cup 2026 before it even had a chance to build momentum.

Where was that dominant team?

Just days ago, LYON looked unstoppable. They stormed through the 2026 Mid-Season Invitational, sweeping FURIA, Team Secret Whales, and even G2 Esports 3-0 in the lower bracket, a run that gave North America its best MSI finish since 2019 before finally falling to Hanwha Life Esports in the Lower Final. That performance built real hype heading into Paris, with fans expecting LYON to carry that same form into the EWC group stage.

They weren't going down without a fight, but the script flipped fast against LØS. The brazilian organization, competing under the MIBR.LOS banner at the tournament, took both games cleanly to secure the sweep and punch its ticket forward in Group D, while LYON was left staring at an early exit.

How it all fell apart

Two games, two losses, zero answers. MIBR.LOS controlled the pace of the series from start to finish, and LYON simply couldn't replicate the discipline and map control that had carried it through MSI just a week earlier.

It sucks even more when you consider LYON entered Paris as one of the more experienced teams in the field, having just gone toe-to-toe with some of the world's best rosters in South Korea. Given the confidence LYON carried out of MSI, few expected the team to fall this quickly, and certainly not in a clean sweep.

Not all is lost

This early elimination doesn't erase what LYON accomplished over the past month. A deep MSI run against the world's top competition remains a genuine achievement for the LCS, and it wasn't just talk, the team backed it up with real results against European and Chinese powerhouses.

The Esports World Cup loss stings, but LYON heads back to North America with plenty to build on for the rest of the 2026 season, even as MIBR.LOS moves on to fight for a spot in the EWC playoffs.
