FURIA Fall Short as Falcons Secure BLAST Open Spring Playoff Spot

FURIA’s BLAST Open Spring 2026 campaign came to a painful end after a 2-1 loss to Team Falcons in the Group A lower bracket final. In what felt more like a playoff clash than an elimination series, The Professor and his squad pushed Falcons to the limit, only to fall short in a tightly contested Nuke.

A Neck-and-Neck Series

Falcons struck first on their map pick of Mirage, but it wasn’t a straightforward win. FURIA showed good form early on, edging out a halftime lead. However, Falcons’ preparation ultimately paid off as they mounted an impressive comeback from 7-11 down to steal the map 13-11. The turnaround highlighted Falcons’ composure under pressure and set the tone for a very competitive series.

Dust2 was the perfect representation of the matchup — relentless and evenly matched. Both teams dominated on their T-sides while struggling to hold defensively. FURIA once again found themselves on the brink of closing, reaching a 12-11 lead, but Falcons forced overtime. This time, however, the Brazilian side held firm, showcasing their mental strength to secure a 16-13 win and force a decider.

The deciding map, Nuke, followed a similar pattern. Neither team impressed on the T-side, though Falcons did manage to win a few more rounds than FURIA. The real difference came on defense, where Falcons delivered a near-flawless CT performance, stringing together nine consecutive rounds to reach map point. They eventually closed out the map 13-10, sealing the series and their spot in the playoffs.

What’s Next?

With the win, Falcons advance to the quarterfinals, where they await the loser of Team Vitality vs. PARIVISION. For FURIA, however, the loss marks another disappointing chapter in the season.

Once considered among the world’s best following a dominant trophy run last year, FURIA’s recent results tell a different story. A respectable second-place finish at IEM Krakow has been followed by a steady decline: 5th-8th at PGL Cluj-Napoca, 9th-11th at ESL Pro League Season 23, and now 7th-8th at BLAST Open.

Still, there’s a silver lining to this storm cloud. Despite the results, FURIA’s individual level still remains high, as seen in this series. For FalleN, it’s now about regrouping and finding the formula to bring FURIA back to title contention.
