Ladislav “GuardiaN” Kovács, one of the most iconic AWPers in Counter-Strike history, has officially retired from professional play. In a video published by BC.Game, the Slovakian veteran announced his decision, stating that it was made without hesitation.

After nearly two decades of competing at the highest level, GuardiaN has decided to step away from professional Counter-Strike to focus on streaming and other personal ventures.

"When you spend half of your life playing tournaments and flying around the world, you burn out. It was the perfect time to focus on something else."

A Storied Career

GuardiaN began his professional Counter-Strike career in 2006 and quickly made a name for himself as one of the best AWPers in the game’s history. Over the years, he played for several top-tier teams, including Natus Vincere, FaZe Clan, and Virtus.pro. His precise and consistent sniping made him a feared opponent and a fan favorite.

Throughout his career, GuardiaN competed in 14 CS:GO Majors, reaching the grand final on three occasions—MLG Columbus 2016, DreamHack Open Cluj-Napoca 2015, and ELEAGUE Major 2018. Unfortunately, he never managed to lift a Major trophy, but that didn’t define his success. He was instrumental in numerous title wins, including:

  • ELEAGUE Premier 2017
  • ESL One New York (2016, 2017)
  • IEM Sydney 2018
  • EPICENTER 2018
  • BLAST Pro Series Miami 2019

The Final Years

In the later stages of his career, GuardiaN stepped away from top-tier competition, playing for smaller teams such as Sampi, Singularity, and his last team, BC.Game. In 2024, he even experimented with coaching while still competing at a lower level.

With his playing days behind him, GuardiaN plans to focus on streaming and possibly transition into analyzing or commentating within the esports scene. He also emphasized his desire to spend more time with his family and work on personal projects.

GuardiaN’s departure from professional Counter-Strike marks the end of an era, but his impact on the game will never be forgotten. His unparalleled skill with the AWP, game sense, and dedication to the game have left a lasting legacy that will continue to inspire future generations of players. We wish GuardiaN a very happy retirement and hope to see him excel at whichever path he chooses forward.

CS2 Major Revenue Share Changes Are Pushing Organizations Away from Counter-Strike

Valve’s new CS2 Major revenue share ties sticker income to VRS and final placement, removing capsule‑style payouts and concentrating money among top finishers. The result: higher volatility for clubs that relied on sticker cheques, early roster cuts like Gaimin Gladiators, and a narrower field of sustainable CS2 organizations unless the payout model changes.
