The Dual Berettas are a pair of semiautomatic pistols featured in the Counter-Strike series. They were exclusive to Terrorists in older titles but became available to both sides in Global Offensive. They stand out because they are always wielded as two separate handguns, one in each hand.

Their design is based on the Beretta 92 series, particularly models adapted to .40 S&W cartridges in older versions, though the code in-game shows 9x19mm. In Global Offensive, these pistols cost less than they did in previous versions, which makes them a popular choice in pistol rounds and certain eco rounds.

Key Properties

Damage and Armor Penetration

These pistols inflict moderate damage, with one less shot to kill compared to standard spawn pistols in many situations. In older games, they were known as .40 Dual Elites and did higher damage in Counter-Strike: Source. They do slightly better damage against unarmored opponents than certain other pistols, but their penetration against armor is lower compared to some high-caliber pistols.

  • Global Offensive:

    • Headshot: 150 unarmored, 86 armored

    • Chest and arms: 37 unarmored, 21 armored

    • Stomach: 46 unarmored, 26 armored

    • Legs: 28 (no armor damage reduction for legs)

  • Older Titles (Counter-Strike, Condition Zero, Source):

    • Typical headshot damage ranges between 140 and 177 unarmored.

    • Chest, arm, and stomach hits usually register between 35 and 55.

    • Leg damage averages around 27 to 32.

Damage dropoff is a concern, especially at longer ranges. For instance, in Global Offensive, damage drops by around 21% per 500 units. This short-range limitation is one of the main downsides of using these pistols in open maps.

Rate of Fire and Reload Time

The Dual Berettas have a high rate of fire. If you bind the fire command to a mouse wheel or another key, you can reach a firing speed rivaling some submachine guns in older versions. However, this approach sacrifices accuracy.

Each magazine holds a generous amount of rounds, but the reload time is longer than most sidearms. This longer reload interval requires proper positioning to stay safe. Many players choose to back off or find cover before reloading.

Cost and Availability

In older Counter-Strike titles, they were the most expensive pistol (up to $800). Global Offensive changed this dynamic. They have gone through several price reductions. At one point, they dropped to $400, then $300. At $300, they are a budget-friendly option compared to many other sidearms.

  • Current Cost (Global Offensive): $300

  • Historical Cost: Ranged from $800 down to $500, and then $400 before eventually settling at $300.

This affordable price allows players to purchase them in pistol rounds without sacrificing armor. On certain maps, that extra firepower and higher running accuracy can be decisive, especially when rushing or defending tight corners.

Tactics and Strategies

Close-Range Aggression

The Dual Berettas thrive at close range. Their rate of fire and large magazine capacity let you engage multiple enemies quickly.

  • Spray in tight corridors. Their recoil is manageable in Global Offensive, so it’s easy to keep firing on the move.

  • Aim for headshots when close. Even with armor involved, a few headshots will drop a target fast.

  • Use them when mobility matters. Their weight is relatively low, so movement speed remains high.

Mid-Range Engagements

These pistols struggle at medium distances if you rely on spamming shots. Their accuracy falls off under rapid fire. If you must fight at mid-range, consider slowing your shots.

  • Fire in short bursts. Two or three shots at a time can keep spread in check.

  • Aim for upper torso. The chest and stomach are easier to hit than the head at mid-range.

  • Complement slow rifles. Snipers often pair these pistols with a Scout or AWP for backup during reloads or when enemies close the gap.

Reload Management

The Dual Berettas have a long reload animation. Both magazines are replaced even if only one pistol is out of ammo. Rushing enemies can exploit this pause, so consider:

  • Safe spots for reloading. Tuck into corners or reload near teammates.

  • Watch your ammo count. Switch to a primary or another secondary if you suspect an immediate threat.

  • Combine them with shotguns. If you carry a shotgun with a slow reload, the Dual Berettas offer a higher rate of secondary fire.

Notable Updates

Price Adjustments

They have received multiple price reductions over time. Early on, they sat at $800, making them the priciest pistol. Valve later dropped this to $500, then to $400, and finally to $300. These changes increased their popularity, especially during pistol rounds and budget buys.

Damage and Sound Changes

Several patches improved sound fidelity and tweaked damage values. This included changes in armor penetration, range modifiers, and move inaccuracy:

  • Increased armor penetration in a 2015 patch.

  • Increased range modifier around the same period.

  • Distinct firing and reload sounds added in a 2016 update.

These changes aimed to balance the pistols alongside other sidearms, though they remain best for close-range encounters.

Trivia and Fun Facts

  • They were called “.40 Dual Elites” in older games, but they actually use 9x19mm in the code.

  • In Global Offensive, they are modeled after the Beretta M9A1 with special grips.

  • Bots rarely buy them in Global Offensive, though they are common among bots in Counter-Strike: Source.

  • The pair fires one pistol at a time in alternating order. In older titles, the right-hand pistol fired first. Global Offensive reversed it.

  • Early versions of the game linked the same ammo pool for the Dual Berettas and certain submachine guns, since they were considered the same caliber.

  • You cannot equip them with a Tactical Shield because both hands are already in use.

Key Takeaway

The Dual Berettas stand out for their high rate of fire, decent damage against unarmored targets, and large magazine capacity. Their cost in Counter-Strike makes them a cost-effective alternative to other pistols. They shine in close-quarters combat, though they demand careful reload management. Their long reload time and limited accuracy at mid to long range can be a liability, yet their rapid-fire nature makes them effective in fast-paced scenarios.

Players who excel at headshots may enjoy them as a fun choice during pistol rounds or eco situations. They have come a long way since their introduction as a Terrorist-exclusive sidearm. Their current role favors rushing and holding tight corners where quick reaction time and generous ammo capacity can make a difference.

Having a reliable secondary helps in many clutch scenarios. These pistols might give you that extra edge when facing multiple opponents at once. Their history, changes in cost, and ongoing adjustments showcase how they remain a distinctive choice, blending style and power in short-range engagements.

CS2 Major Revenue Share Changes Are Pushing Organizations Away from Counter-Strike
