Across its long history, Counter-Strike has seen some 211 odd maps grace its official servers. From the original Counter-Strike released back in 1999 to the latest entry to the series - Counter-Strike 2 - released in 2023.

Maps are the defining battlefields upon which the players from all walks of life face off against their opponents, plant (and/or defuse) uncountable bombs, throw an incalculable nades, and shoot an unfathomable amount of bullets.

So, when loading into each iteration of Counter-Strike, it’s important to know what maps are currently available as well as the ins and outs of each map, so as to maximize your chances of success. Today, we’re covering all the CS2 maps currently available in Premier and Competitive Game Modes

What’s the Difference between Premier and Competitive?

Premier and Competitive refers to 2 distinct game modes in Counter-Strike 2. Both game modes offer separate ladders for climbing and gaining elo.

Premier is what most would consider the absolute pinnacle for Counter-Strike 2 prowess outside of 3rd party matchmakers like Faceit and ESEA. A fixed ladder is consistently displayed for the entire region and players are given a 5 digit calculation of their elo rating, placing them somewhere on the ladder.

The premier map pool consists of only the maps in the Active Duty Pool. All map wins and losses add or subtract to your Premier elo rating.

Competitive, meanwhile, displays a separate rank on a map-by-map basis. Meaning, your performance on one map will remain independent of your rating on the other maps. Moreover, Competitive includes all maps in the Active Duty Pool as well as maps in the Reserve Pool.

Fear not, we will go through all the relevant map pools in this article. By the end, you’ll be extremely familiar with all the maps Counter-Strike 2 has to offer.

Mirage

Over the years, Mirage has gained the reputation once held by Dust II. Tried and tested, this map has seen it all since its introduction in the first Counter-Strike back in 2013. With a fairly balanced design offering a buffet of options for both tactical-minded teams as well as aim stars, Mirage has stood the test of time and it is likely it will continue to do so.

Nuke

Truly one of the original pioneering maps for what would become Counter-Strike, Nuke is a particularly challenging map, composed of 2 layers, the bombsites stacked one on top of the other. Infamous as well for its CT-sided dominance, the map has proven to be the backbreaker of many a team over the decades of its service.

Inferno

Considered the El Classico for professional Counter-Strike, Inferno blends complex and narrow entryways with deadly sightlines. The enduring popularity of the map stems from its perceived perfect equilibrium, often leading to games that stretched into overtime. More than that, the history attached to the map over the years has easily made it one of the most cherished and enduring maps in the history of Counter-Strike.

Ancient

Second newest addition to the active duty pool, Ancient has found its home in the pool as a brawl-heavy arena. With multiple points to contend for both Ts and CTs, Mid and Catwalk are of paramount importance to secure control of. For those seasoned CS2 warriors, this map is likely one of your favorites.

Anubis

Often tricky to call on, Anubis is a map with dangerous extremities, plenty of close quarter fighting, and loads of ratty corners to get your one. Originally spawned as a community-created map, it’s typically considered a T-sided map. Action-packed as it is, Anubis offers players plenty of opportunity and versatile gameplay options.

Vertigo

After a long absence from the competitive pool, Vertigo makes another showing in CSGO and now CS2. An extremely divisive and challenging map, Vertigo gets its name from the vertical gameplay that defines the map. Complex layouts, challenging areas, it is a map that emphasizes information gathering and swift, precise rotations.

Dust II

Newest addition to the CS2 active pool and one of the oldest and certainly the most iconic of all the maps, Dust II remains synonymous with Counter-Strike. Known for its round-deciding spawns, the battle for A-long is a never ending cycle between Ts and CTs for control of an integral part of the map. Both strategic and skillful approaches alike can easily find a home on Dust II.

Newest returnee to the franchise, Train makes a welcome first arrival in CS2, bringing with it more than just a new coat of paint. With plenty of changes, the core of the map may have stayed the same, but players will need to remaster one of the most challenging tactical maps in the game.

Overpass

Overthrown by Dust II, Overpass takes its first sabbatical from the Active Pool since its entry into CS2. Known for its tricky tempo, Ts have to progressively seize control of small portions of the map to progress onwards on Overpass.

Edin (New)

Added with Train, Edin is a community-made map set in a historic Scottish city. Plenty of wide open spaces define Edin, along with long sightlines, making it a deadly map to navigate for either side. Experimentation of a new map layout has led to a unique dual bombsite setup, with B framed in the center of the map.

Basalt (New)

Added with Train, Basalt is a community-made map set in Iceland. Tight corridors and pathways make Basalt a tricky, maze-like map to navigate. While beautiful, it will be a challenge to cohesively work through as a unit to clear out the undoubtedly camping CTs.

CS2 Major Revenue Share Changes Are Pushing Organizations Away from Counter-Strike

Valve’s new CS2 Major revenue share ties sticker income to VRS and final placement, removing capsule‑style payouts and concentrating money among top finishers.
