"The Hunden Files" by esports journalist Richard Lewis is a series of articles about the professional Counter-Strike: Global Offensive player, Nicolai "Hunden" Petersen. Who was caught sharing confidential information about his team's strategies with other teams during a tournament.

Chapter 1: The Many Contracts of Hunden

In the first chapter, Lewis discusses the complex and often opaque world of professional esports contracts. He explains that esports contracts can be difficult to understand and enforce. And that many players sign contracts without fully understanding their implications. Lewis then goes on to describe Hunden's own contract with his former team, Heroic. And the specific clauses that were allegedly violated when he shared confidential information with other teams. Hunden himself believed he was working for Astralis at the time. And would undertake multiple tasks for the org during this time. Thus leading up to the decision to leak tactical documentation from Heroic to Astralis ahead of the Danish Derby at IEM Cologne 2021.

Chapter 2: The Leak

In the second chapter, Lewis delves into the details of how the information leak happened. He provides evidence in the form of chat logs and screenshots of Discord conversations between Hunden and other players. Which support the claims that he leaked the information. Lewis also notes that the leak caused a great deal of controversy and anger within the esports community. With some people calling for Hunden to be banned from the sport entirely. Lewis concludes by stating that the leaked communication between Hunden and Heroic is a wake-up call for the esports industry, and that it should serve as a reminder that the integrity of the competition must be protected at all costs. He calls for the industry to take a more proactive approach to preventing cheating and other forms of misconduct, and to hold individuals accountable for their actions.

Lewis provides details about how Hunden went about finding and recruiting players, including through online matchmaking services and in-person tryouts. However, Lewis also states that Hunden's case highlights the need for greater transparency and regulation in the recruitment process. He argues that there should be clear guidelines in place to ensure that recruiters act with integrity and prioritize the interests of the players and teams they represent.
