About this event

Esports World Cup EMEA Qualifier

Overview

The Esports World Cup EMEA Qualifier (full name: EMEA Qualifier 2026) is an online League of Legends tournament that serves as the European, Middle Eastern, and African regional qualifier for the 2026 Esports World Cup main event. Organized by the Esports World Cup Foundation in partnership with ESL FACEIT Group, it is classified as an A-Tier qualifier. The series grants two spots at the Esports World Cup 2026, a premier multi-esports competition held in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, from July 15–19, 2026, featuring a $2,000,000 USD prize pool across 16 teams.

History

The Esports World Cup series originated from the Gamers8 event and was formally established in late 2023. League of Legends was added as a featured title for three consecutive years starting in 2025, with the EMEA Qualifier making its debut in 2026 as the first edition of this specific regional event. The qualifier integrates with existing LEC and EMEA Masters structures, evolving from prior regional pathways to feed into the global Esports World Cup.

Format

The 2026 edition features 12 teams: all 10 LEC squads plus the top two teams from EMEA Masters 2026 Winter. It employs a double-elimination bracket with seeding based on LEC Versus results. The top four LEC teams receive a bye to Upper Bracket Round 2. All non-qualification matches are best-of-three (Bo3) using Fearless Draft, while the upper bracket final, lower bracket final, and qualification matches are best-of-five (Bo5). The top two teams qualify for the Esports World Cup 2026 main event; if the LEC Spring champion is among them, the next-highest finisher advances instead.

The tournament runs entirely online across EMEA from April 28 to May 17, 2026.

Notable Editions

As the inaugural 2026 edition, the qualifier stands out for its integration of the full LEC roster with EMEA Masters representatives in a high-stakes double-elimination format. Key storylines include strong performances by seeded teams like G2 Esports and Karmine Corp advancing through the upper bracket, alongside underdog runs in the lower bracket (e.g., Solary and Shifters). The event coincides with the ongoing LEC 2026 Spring Split, adding narrative weight as teams balance domestic and international qualification paths.

Past Champions

This is the first edition of the EMEA Qualifier (2026). As of May 15, 2026, the tournament remains ongoing, with G2 Esports and Karmine Corp set to contest the upper bracket final on May 16 (Bo5). Lower bracket matches continue through May 17. No champion has been crowned.

Viewership & Impact

The qualifier broadcasts primarily on the official Esports World Cup Twitch channel (twitch.tv/ewc), with additional coverage on co-streamers including OTP LoL (Twitch and YouTube). Specific concurrent viewer numbers are not yet publicly detailed. Its significance lies in providing EMEA teams a direct path to the prestigious Esports World Cup, elevating regional competition and offering exposure within the broader multi-title esports ecosystem.
