The League of the Americas, or LTA for short, is finally arriving to our screens! Beginning this Saturday, January 25th, the eight teams that make up the LTA North Conference will face off in a double elimination bracket for a chance to make it to the first cross-conference event of the LTA.

Let's go ahead and have a look at everything you can expect from the much anticipated opening week of the LTA North Split 1.

Stories to follow in Week 1

Is Split 1 a three horse race?

Entering the inaugural split of the LTA, FlyQuest, Team Liquid, and Cloud9 look like the clear favorites to walk away with the first LTA trophy.

FlyQuest and Team Liquid met one another in the last LCS final of 2024 to culminate a season of strong performances from both teams. Since then, neither FLY or TL have made a single change to their rosters, and are expected to remain at the top of the league in 2025.

As for Cloud9, the team revitalized their squad with the addition of Loki, as well as the return of Zven. After speaking to Inspired in a recent interview, the FlyQuest jungler disclosed that Cloud9 have been looking particularly good in scrims, praising both Zven’s shotcalling as well as Thanatos and Loki’s strong laning.

Though the three teams will have relatively easy matchups to start their LTA journeys, it will be interesting to see and compare Cloud9, Team Liquid and FlyQuest’s power levels during Week 1 of the LTA North Split 1 and see if any one team looks especially ahead of the competition.

A new challenger approaches

With LYON entering the scene, North American teams will be sharing the stage with a Latin American time for the first time ever. While LYON may not look particularly strong on paper, the squad are certainly no slouches.

LYON’s South American core of Oddie and Lyonz have been playing together since 2023. Over the course of the two years in which they have been working in tandem, Oddie and Lyonz won three of the four LLA trophies available for the taking. Now, the duo will do their best to try and carry over that same level of domination over to North America.

If LYON will want to give the top teams in the north a run for their money, a good showing against Cloud9 on Week 1 would be a good place to start.

LTA North Split 1 Opening Matches

To make sure to keep up to date will all the latest matches and results, you can follow all games on Strafe. The opening matchups for Week 1 of the LTA North will look as follows:

FlyQuest vs Shopify Rebellion [January 25th, 1 pm PT | 10 pm CET]

FlyQuest will be coming into their first match of the new season high off their strong performance at Worlds 2024. With the very same roster that won FLY the last LCS Championship, the squad should have no trouble disposing of a Shopify Rebellion team that may be forced to field substitute support player Zeyzal in place of Ceos to start things off.

LYON vs Cloud9 [January 25th, 4 pm PT | 1 am CET]

After a disappointing year in 2024, Cloud9 show up to Split 1 of the LTA with a revitalized roster. If word on the street is true, and Cloud9 really have been popping off in scrims, then the team should be the clear favorite to come away with the victory in Week 1.

LYON will come into the match hungry to prove they are a team to be taken seriously, meaning Cloud9 should take no liberties in a matchup that may prove to be more difficult than a first glance would indicate.

100 Thieves vs Disguised [January 26th, 1 pm PT | 10 pm CET]

Disguised are breaking into the LTA with a roster made up of an intriguing combination of experience, imports, and up-and-coming North American talent. For all their efforts, though, the team will be going up against a team that has far more experience competing at the top level.

Though 100 Thieves may prove to be the same dysfunctional team we saw compete in the LCS last year, the squad did make it to Worlds 2024 after all. Now, the addition of FBI should bring stability into the thieves' bot lane, ensuring they get past Disguised and into the second round.

Team Liquid vs Dignitas [January 26th, 4 pm PT | 1 am CET]

The team that went undefeated last season show up to Split 1 of the LTA with the exact same squad. Dignitas, in turn, have put up one of the least inspired rosters in league to kick things off.

Team Liquid's opening match should pose no real problem for the team, though it will be exciting to see how Dignitas' hyped up rookie of Srtty measures up against a seasoned veteran like Impact in the top lane.
