An LCK classic, T1 and Gen.G are set to square off in the Semifinals of Worlds 2024. Two behemoths of the game will exchange blows, but only one will make their way to London for a shot at the trophy and League of Legends immortality.

The greatest LCK rivalry of recent times will add another chapter to the saga, only this time on an even bigger stage. With all the history between these two teams, their strategic depth, and the tournament's Finals on the line, the series between T1 and Gen.G promises some of the highest level of play yet at Worlds 2024.

Let's take a look at what we should expect from the latest entry into this growing rivalry when T1 and Gen.G take each other on Sunday, October 27th at 3 pm CEST.

Worlds 2024 Semifinals Preview: T1 vs Gen.G

When T1 and Gen.G walk onto the stage for their Semifinal match of Worlds 2024, it will be the sixth series these two teams play against one another in 2024.

Throughout the year, Gen.G has dominated their South Korean counterparts of T1, as the team currently holds an 11-3 lead in their head-to-head for 2024 so far.

While T1 may be the defending World Champions, they will be facing off against their toughest opponent yet in this lights-out Semifinal.

Gen.G look to close out a dominant year

Gen.G took off to a flying start to the year by lifting the LCK Spring trophy after defeating none other than T1 themselves in a thrilling final that saw the two rivals push each other to the limit.

To continue their great run of form, Gen.G ran away with their first international trophy of the year after defeating the LPL's BLG in the finals of the Mid-Season Invitational. A BLG team who, it's worth mentioning, is set to face the winner of T1 vs Gen.G in the grand finals of Worlds 2024.

Despite the team's incredibly dominant showing throughout the LCK Summer Season, during which they shattered several LCK records, Gen.G lost in yet another thrilling finals to Hanwha Life Esports. The loss meant Gen.G would show up at Worlds 2024 as the LCK's second seed despite being the biggest favorites in many people's eyes.

Now, Gen.G stands only two steps away from closing down on the Worlds 2024 trophy to put the finishing touches on what would be a year for the League of Legends history books.

Worlds awakens the beast in T1

Despite winning the Esports World Cup (EWC) in Riyadh earlier this year, the reigning World Champions of T1 have not had an easy time in the LCK on the buildup to Worlds 2024.

During the LCK Summer Season, T1 finished in fourth place with a middling 11-7 record. After being eliminated during the tournament's playoffs by Hanwha Life, T1 were forced to look to the LCK Regional Finals as the team's last hope for making it to Worlds 2024 to defend their crown.

Historic as Faker and T1 may be, the team's struggles continued during an unimpressive showing in the LCK Regional Finals. After losing to Dplus KIA in their opening series, the team stood on the brink of missing Worlds 2024 altogether as KT Rolster pushed T1 to the limit in a dramatic finish. After pulling out all the stops, T1 qualified for Worlds 2024, though just barely.

Once T1 showed up at Worlds 2024... well, now that's another story. The team that struggled all throughout the LCK earlier in the year was nowhere to be found. In their place, a confident and oppressive T1 showed up to run over their opposition.

The team made it past the Swiss Stage with relative ease before facing off against the LPL's second seed of Top Esports in the Quarterfinals. There, T1 lived up to their labels of 'LPL Killers' by breezing past TES with a quick 3-0 that was nothing short of impressive, even by T1's standards.

Faker vs Chovy: The best player in history vs the best player in the world

Incredible as it may sound, when Chovy first burst into the scene more than five years ago, Faker already had three Worlds titles under his belt.

Since then, it seems Chovy's mid lane domination has often gone unrivaled. Coming into Worlds 2024, Chovy was heralded by most as the greatest League of Legends player in the world today.

Despite his undisputed status, however, Chovy has often been forced to live in Faker's shadow. While Chovy hasn't been able to translate his oppressive playstyle into a Worlds trophy. Meanwhile, Faker continued to extend his legacy by winning last year's Worlds through sheer experience and strategic depth.

With Faker having now lifted the biggest trophy an astounding four times, comparisons between the two players have become inevitable.

Now, at Worlds 2024, the Gen.G mid laner is surrounded by a star-studded roster that may present Chovy with his biggest shot at a Worlds title yet. To do so, however, he will have to get through the greatest League of Legends player of all time first.

T1 vs Gen.G: A chess match on the rift

In true LCK style, both T1 and Gen.G's playstyles are backed by enough strategy in their playbooks to fill up a library. While the two teams have world caliber players across the board, their magic seldom lies in their individual outplays.

Gen.G may look to stick to their guns, fully aware that they have worked so flawlessly against T1 all year long. And yet, the T1 team they dominated in the LCK is certainly not the same T1 that will load up to the rift for the Semifinals of Worlds 2024. And if FlyQuest proved one thing in their series against Gen.G in the Quarterfinals, it's that there certainly are cracks in the Gen.G system.

So far at Worlds 2024, T1 have shown the cooler demeanor, which has often proved vital when it came to making the right calls when the heat's up to the max. Faker's unrivaled experience at Worlds is looking pivotal as the team looks to earn their second consecutive Worlds trophy as a roster.

While T1 may have struggled to put up a fight against Gen.G all year long, as their 3-11 record against them suggests, Faker and company could always search for answers in the very fringes of League of Legends strategy. Or, as we like to call it, the LCS. If sticking to their guns proves fruitless against Gen.G in the opening games of the series, T1 may just be forced to throw a spanner in the works.

In the end, there's something intangible about what Faker brings to the Worlds stage which may prove to be Gen.G's undoing as the team looks to conquer their demons and prove once and for all that they too are Worlds caliber.
