Rasmus “Caps” Borregaard Winther, mid laner for G2 Esports, has been crowned the 2024 LEC MVP.

This comes a mere hour before G2’s fated rematch against MAD Lions KOI. Following the team’s earlier loss to MDK in the 1st round, G2 have been on a mad spree through the lower bracket for a second shot against the team that dared strike them down.

Caps: 2024 LEC MVP

Caps has long been crowned the jewel of the LEC, the region’s best player hands down, both mechanically and accomplishments-wise. Since his early days on Fnatic, when he first truly caught the eyes of the World, his enigmatic approach to champions, his ability to seemingly outskill his opponents on a regular basis with the most absurd mechanics, and most evidently, his passion and drive to win.

It has been 10 years since he began playing. In those years, Caps has only grown wiser, and his cabinet continues to grow with his domestic successes. While internationally, he has yet to lift a trophy, it feels almost fated that eventually he will.

In 2024, G2 Esports is undefeated domestically. Not a massive accomplishment at first glance given their almost complete dominance over the region for the last few years. However, when considering this is the most competitive the region has looked, it’s exciting to see G2 still at the forefront of it all.

G2 Esports won the Winter, Spring, and Summer Splits in 2024. They went to MSI, where they finished 4th after defeating Top Esports in a Bo5 and taking T1 the distance as well. At the Esports World Cup, they fell to Top Esports in a rematch from MSI, but still placed 4th.

G2: Grand Slam in Sight?

Domestically, G2 are on the cusp of something truly incredible. Last year, MAD Lions denied them the Grand Slam by lifting the Spring Split trophy. This year, G2 is still in the running. The Season Finals is all that remains between Caps and co, and an absolute statement.

They Live… And Die by Caps

G2 is by and large, the greatest League of Legends team Europe has produced. This is evident by their continuous dominance over the region and the numerous titles the organization has lifted.

Since Caps donned the G2 jersey, G2 has lifted 12 domestic titles. 12. There’s been 16 titles since he joined, by my count.

This year especially, Caps has found a new absurd level in the mid lane, and is evident by the results. When Caps turns on, G2 more often than not, just wins the game off the back of his carry.

So, the MVP is probably deserved, all things considered.
