G2 defeated Team BDS in the Lower Bracket Finals of the 2024 LEC Summer Playoffs to set up another exciting series against long-time rivals of Fnatic.

Having lost to Fnatic in an epic 5-game series in the Upper Bracket Finals just last Monday (July 22nd), G2 is surely hungry for revenge.

Set for LEC Summer Playoffs Grand Finals: G2 stumble but do not fall

All eyes were on G2 and how the team would perform following their first loss in a best-of-5 series against Fnatic in nearly 3 years.

And yet, much to everyone's surprise, it was Team BDS who came out of the gates with a point to prove. The team quickly grabbed the first game of the series with some fantastic play from Théo "Sheo" Borile on Zyra.

The French jungler managed to get his team an uncontested dragon soul, as well as secure a clutch Baron steal that would prove vital in BDS' victory.

This G2 team, however, is not one to break under pressure.

Game 2 of the series saw G2 quickly even the score despite a fantastic early game from Team BDS. Ultimately, the game was decided by G2's superior drafting and team-fighting, both of which had to come into full effect to overcome BDS' 8k gold lead.

G2 followed the momentary scare by putting on an absolute show in Game 3 of the series. The team's relentless mid-game pressure was simply too much for a Team BDS that was left without answers.

Fight or go home

With neither team looking ready to end their Summer Season just yet, G2 and BDS gave fans a League of Legends spectacle to end the series.

The game was a constant back-and-forth until BDS pulled off a 4v5 team-fight win off the back of Adam "Adam" Maanane's penta-kill on K'Sante. BDS looked poised to take the game following the crucial team-fight victory.

G2, however, had other plans. The European Kings pulled off yet another miracle comeback after securing back-to-back team-fights and closing the series in style.

After what was a bloody and unrelenting 42-kill roller coaster ride, G2 will look to get some much needed rest before their scheduled showdown against Fnatic this Sunday (July 28th).

Following the team's rocky set of performances in these playoffs, G2's Mihael "Mikyx" Mehle had this to say about it:

"I think currently we're just playing quite poorly. So, yeah, I expect us to get way better the longer we go. So, I'm not too worried right now."

Result: G2 3-1 Team BDS

G2 look to take back their crown

G2 came into these playoffs having won 3 LEC Seasons in a row, as well as the 2023 LEC Season Finals. Now, the team is surely eager to continue that streak.

Fnatic, in turn, still remembers their loss at the hands of G2 in the LEC Spring Split Finals just 3 months ago. The team took home the Spring trophy after a convincing 3-1 victory over Fnatic to extend their European domination even further.

Fnatic will not be content with having won on Monday, as they will surely have their eyes set on ending G2's sovereignty over Europe, as well as on that much-elusive LEC trophy.

Will G2 stand up to the test, or will the kingdom finally crumble?
