League of Legends Esports is launching an exciting new feature into its esports scene: Global Power Rankings . The new system, which is powered by Amazon Web Services (AWS), is designed to bring clarity to how teams stack up across the world.

This data-driven tool provides real-time updates on the strength of every Tier 1 team, letting fans and analysts track their favorite squads as they navigate competitive play.

The rankings, which adjust after every match, will feature at Worlds 2024.

How the Ranking System will work

The system is built on an Elo model, which evaluates both the team’s individual performance and the overall strength of the region they represent.

A team's Power Score is primarily based on their Elo rating (80%) with the remaining 20% weighted by the strength of the regional league in which they compete. This model provides a balanced perspective by considering not only how a team performs but also how tough their competition is, giving a more holistic view of global rankings.

One standout feature of the Global Power Rankings is its ability to update after every game. That means that every game, not just tournaments or split results, contributes to the rankings. This offers a real-time understanding of where teams stand, making the system highly reactive to the fast-paced nature of League of Legends competitions.

Furthermore, international events carry more weight in the rankings than regional matches. Likewise, elimination games have a larger impact compared to group stages, ensuring that more significant matches shape the rankings appropriately.

Lastly, Riot ensures that the system's predictive capabilities are deemed considerably accurate after rigorous testing.

Future Enhancements and Innovations

While the Global Power Rankings already offer deep insights into team performance, Riot Games has plans for further improvements. Future updates could integrate in-game statistics to refine Power Scores based on performance within a single match.

Additionally, Riot will look to introduce player power rankings to reflect individual player impact on matches.

Worlds 2024 Power Rankings

Riot has announced their plans to feature the Global Power Rankings on the LoL Esports website as well as their official broadcast throughout Worlds 2024.

Once Worlds wraps up and a winner is declared on November 2nd, Riot plans to publish their final Global Power Rankings for the 2024 season.
