G2 stomp FaZe to reach the semi-finals
The highlight Quarter-Final between G2 Esports and FaZe Clan took an unexpected turn after a complete stomp by Nikola “NiKo” Kovač’s men.
Coming to Dallas with a stand-in, many had their doubts on the team, and whether they can survive against the heavy hitters. However, they stood as a rock against FaZe Clan.
Moreover, what started as an “amusing” addition, turned to become an important asset within the lineup so far. Jacky "Stewie2K" Yip, despite not attending a LAN event in over two years, managed to find his rhythm next to the formidable talent of G2.
Dust 2 goes to G2
Inside the server, the series kicked off on Dust 2, G2’s map pick. Yet, Finn "karrigan" Andersen’s squad secured their seventh in a row pistol round, followed by the conversion.
“Stewie2K” with nerves of steel, penetrated the opponent's defenses on multiple occasions. Often, with a flash support taking long control single handedly.
For the first ten rounds, both teams went back and forth trading rounds. Then, FaZe Clan took the edge with two consecutive rounds, ending the half at 7-5.
With a convincing first half, it was expected for “karrigan” to toy with “NiKo” and show him the ropes. But, G2 had a different plan. In fact, they almost had a perfect CT side with only one round on the offense for FaZe.
This time, it was Ilya "m0NESY" Osipov’s turn to shine with an impressive impact and CT side rating. The Russian flash finished the map with 113 ADR, 2.36 impact and the most entries on the T side.
FaZe disappears on Nuke
Going into the second map, FaZe Clan needed a reset to fixate on their map pick, Nuke. Unfortunately, things went downhill from the start, and without any signs of strength, G2 wiped them out 13-2.
On the back of double headshots from “NiKo” and “m0NESY” in the pistol round, FaZe’s fate was clear. Moreover, the greatest rifler of all time showed his best impression of the “outside king” Håvard "rain" Nygaard with a picture-perfect execution.
Throughout the entire map, karrigan’s squad seemed lost with G2’s tight grip on most areas. Although they managed to scramble a couple of rounds, their poor trading ability was their major setback. Evidently seen in the seventh round.
During that round, “NiKo” was holding from inside the garage. And despite revealing his position after killing “rain”, both Helvijs "broky" Saukants and David "frozen" Čerňanský failed to trade him.
"They played a really good game and we didn't show up, and that's how we got here …They had some good reads on both maps, it wasn't an easy game, they played really well."
"Obviously, this one was a disappointment, and we'll aim for better results next trip." Filip "NEO" Kubski said after the match.
As a result, finding a quick solution for their disastrous showing is a priority. With BLAST Premier Spring Final taking place in less than two weeks, starting the 12th of June.
