G2 Esports' head coach, Jan "Swani" Müller, has announced his decision to step down from his position after the conclusion of the BLAST Premier World Final later this month. The 28-year-old emphasized that the decision was solely his own and came as a result of the toll the job had taken on him.

A Year of Achievements

Previously serving as the team's analyst and later as the assistant coach, Swani took over as G2's interim head coach in late 2022 following Rémy "XTQZZZ" Quoniam's departure. In his tenure, the team achieved significant milestones, breaking G2's years-long title drought at the BLAST Premier World Final and adding the iconic IEM Katowice and IEM Cologne trophies to their cabinet in 2023.

Reflecting on his journey, Swani highlighted the Cologne victory on his home soil as the most important moment for him, expressing gratitude to the fans for their support. He mentioned,

"When I think about the moments in the arena, having a crowd scream my name is still surreal, and I will be eternally thankful for you guys making this a lifetime experience for me."

Swani recalled his coaching journey, stating,

"I was the only coach in the Top 10 to never have played professionally myself. Despite all these factors, I am immensely proud of what we achieved together as a team in the past year."

He acknowledged the team's success in winning the World Finals and ending the trophy drought for the organization. The coach expressed pride in the team's performance in 2023, securing a significant win streak on IEM and clinching the prestigious IEM Katowice title.

The Final Trophy and Farewell

The upcoming BLAST Premier World Final will mark Swani's last tournament with G2, where the team will compete for a share of the $1 million prize money against some of the world's top-ten teams.

In his official tweet, Swani stated,

"But now the time has come to take care of myself and my loved ones. I gradually felt worse throughout the year, and it has taken a big toll on me, so I made the decision to step back... But once the passion becomes a burden, it is time to end it. Thank you G2Army and everyone involved! Swani out."

Expressing gratitude to the organization and the fans, he thanked the G2Army and everyone involved, emphasizing the memories made while traveling the world with the team.
