Ace, full name Håvard Haugland, is an Attacking Operator in Rainbow Six Siege. He joined the game in Operation Steel Wave alongside Melusi.

Born in a quiet Norwegian village, Ace stood out early. He aimed to become a pediatric surgeon but soon realized theory-heavy academics didn’t suit him. He switched to paramedic training, where practical skills took priority.

His army service started in the Norwegian Home Guard. He later joined the Forsvarets Spesialkommando and gained recognition in a major hostage rescue. During a joint mission in Somalia, he saved Kali’s life. She later invited him to join NIGHTHAVEN.

Ace helped build NIGHTHAVEN’s R&D facility and became closely tied with Osa, the engineer who created his gadget—the SELMA Aqua Breacher. With Kali’s help, he joined Rainbow in 2020. After the Six Invitational 2022, Ace followed Kali and left Rainbow with the other NIGHTHAVEN operatives.

Ace’s Personality and Motivation

Ace is confident and enjoys attention. His social media activity supports the image of a selfless hero, but some teammates think it’s for show. He wants recognition, not just from followers, but also from his peers.

He prefers action over theory and thrives in fast-paced roles. He often flirts and jokes, even in serious environments. His loyalty to Kali seems rooted in ambition, and his drive for success makes him stand out, both on and off the field.

Loadout and Gadgets

Ace’s primary weapons are the AK-12 and the M1014. The AK-12 is a strong assault rifle with high damage and manageable recoil, making it ideal for most combat scenarios. The M1014, a semi-automatic shotgun, is suited for close-quarters combat where stopping power is essential.

For secondary weapons, Ace carries the P9 handgun. While basic, it serves as a reliable backup when the primary is unavailable.

His secondary gadgets include three Breach Charges and one Claymore. The Breach Charges are useful for destroying unreinforced surfaces, while the Claymore helps cover flanks and protect against Defender run-outs.

Ace’s unique gadget is the SELMA Aqua Breacher. This device uses hydraulic pressure to breach reinforced and soft surfaces. When thrown, it attaches to a surface and activates in one or two stages, depending on space. It creates rectangular openings large enough for vaulting or crouch-walking through.

How the SELMA Breacher Works

The SELMA is thrown at a breachable surface, where it anchors itself and releases its explosive arms. After a brief delay, it detonates to create a small breach. If the surface allows, it slides down and detonates a second time, making a larger opening.

On floors or hatches, the SELMA explodes once. It can destroy reinforced hatches, but two SELMAs are required. It can also be picked up if not yet activated.

The SELMA can destroy Mira’s Black Mirrors if even part of it touches the mirror. This makes it effective for disabling key Defender tools.

Strengths of Ace’s Gadget

The SELMA can take out Defender gadgets that are nearby when its arms extend, which helps clear utility from a distance. It creates large entry points quickly and safely, giving attackers a solid breach tool. Because it can be thrown from a distance, it also reduces exposure compared to other breaching options.

Weaknesses and Counters

The SELMA can be stopped by several defensive gadgets and actions. Jäger’s ADS and Wamai’s Mag-NET can intercept the device before it activates. Electrified walls using Bandit’s Shock Wire or Kaid’s Electroclaw will block its function. Mute’s Signal Jammer prevents it from activating, though if the jammer is destroyed, the SELMA resumes.

The device is also vulnerable to gunfire. Any Defender can shoot it before or during activation. Explosives like Impact Grenades or Nitro Cells can destroy it once part of the breach is open. Additionally, its explosion does very little damage to enemies, allowing defenders to stay close and engage during the breach.

Operator Synergies

Ace works best with teammates who can clear enemy utility. Thatcher’s EMP grenades disable electronic traps like Mute’s jammer or Kaid’s claw. Twitch’s Shock Drone can destroy gadgets from a distance. Kali’s under-barrel gadget clears gadgets placed on or near walls. Zero’s Argus Cameras provide intel and remove gadgets. Flores’ RCE drones can clear multiple defender tools before the SELMA is used.

Combining Ace with these operators makes his breaches more consistent and safer for the team.

Best Ways to Use Ace

Ace is most effective on reinforced walls. Throwing the SELMA high lets it breach and then slide down for a second detonation, creating a full-sized opening. On soft walls, the SELMA works quickly and safely without needing to get too close. For hatches, use two SELMAs to breach reinforced ones completely. In utility destruction, placing the SELMA near Defender gadgets can clear them as part of the breach process.

Tips for Playing Ace

  • Always aim the SELMA higher up to allow for a double breach.
  • Before throwing, check if the surface is electrified.
  • Use teammate support to remove traps or jammers.
  • Don’t waste SELMAs—wait for intel or safe conditions.
  • Be alert while breaching, as defenders may try to peek or push during the detonation.

Ace’s Role in the Siege Meta

Ace is a reliable hard breacher. He offers a balance between safety, utility, and entry potential. His gadget works well in most team setups and is flexible across many map types and strategies.

With proper coordination, Ace can break key walls and enable strong site control. His low-risk breaching and utility-clearing potential make him valuable at all levels of play.

Final Thoughts

Ace in Rainbow Six Siege is more than a flashy operator. His gadget is practical, his loadout is solid, and his playstyle is consistent. Whether you’re new to the game or looking to improve team coordination, Ace is a strong pick for hard breaching roles.
