The Upper Finals of VCT Game Changers Championship 2023 featured two giants of the Game Changers scene. In the match, G2 Gozen took on Shopify Rebellion in a best-of-three series, with the winner of the match securing Grand Finals.

The game boasts a substantial history with meL and alexis losing to the G2 Gozen trio last year which was the genesis of their tournament exit. The shopify duo will definitely look to return the favor this year.

G2 Gozen 1-2 Shopify Rebellion

The G2 - Shopify brawl started on Breeze. G2 Gozen started really strong on the backs of Petra’s amazing dueling ability. G2 secured a strong four round lead at the end of first half. They converted the lead into a 13-6 win in the second half.

Shopify Rebellion answered back with a dominant 10-2 half on Ascent and with a 13-3 win Shopify forced a third map.

Sunset was very close. In the first half, G2 started strong but Shopify answered back swiftly. While Shopify had the steering wheel, G2 controlled the pace and the first half concluded with a two-round difference.

In the second half, Shopify won four rounds in a row to extend the lead to six rounds. G2 did answer back but the extensive lead was too much for them to overcome. With the map win, Shopify secured the series and the VCT Game Changers Championship Grand Finals.

While it was a disappointing loss for G2 Gozen, they are still in contention for the finals and will wait for their next opponents in the Lower Finals.

Talking about the final map and the next opponent, G2 mimi said:

About Sunset - the final map

“I could’ve aimed better in their faces for example. I think that would’ve helped a lot. I think that’s basically it.

About the next opponent

“I would rather play Liquid than SMG even though Liquid has the home crowd buff. I think that it’d a more comfortable match for us than Team SMG

The win means a lot for meL and alexis as they lost to G2 Gozen last year. They were eagerly waiting for another chance to take down their European counterparts and dominate the competition.

Talking about their win over G2 Gozen and the next game Shopify Rebellions’s meL and Alexis said:

About the first map and how they bounced back in the next two

meL “There were two things. First we were making very easy mistakes that they capitalized on, very unforced errors and that’s not very characteristic. It usually means that you are the one outplaying yourself. But props to Petra for capitalizing and punishing us. Number two just instantly having the composure to reset and remember there are two more maps. It's not like you win one map and you win you have to win two. So we just go in thinking 0-0 with the first map as Ascent and second map as Sunset.

Alexis “It is pretty funny that last year we stomped them first map and they reverse sweeped us so we knew that we could do the same thing”

About the next opponent

meL “Potentially (this game was a teaser for the grand finals). The fact that they took a map from us is good for them. But I am not sure though, the teams’ that are left are pretty stacked like SMG and Liquid BR have a pretty good chance. But we’d have to see. I am ready to play any one of them. But I think it’d be pretty fun to play Team Liquid Brazil in the Finals though.

Alexis “I also would really like to play Liquid because in the last two years we haven’t gotten to play them on an International stage, so that’d be very fun.”

Shopify Rebellion now comfortably sit in the Grand Finals whilst the remaining three teams battle tomorrow to secure the other Grand Finals spot. You can follow the Game Changers action on Twitch or YouTube starting 14:00 BRT.
