ESL One Birmingham, the first ESL LAN tournament of the year, will begin in two weeks.  ESL made a last-minute announcement. 1win, the Russian team, failed to meet their visa deadline. As a result, 1win had to sit out from the event, and ESL gave their slot to OG.

The announcement ignited sparks within the Dota 2 community. 1win expressed their disappointment, calling out ESL One with the decision.

The Statement

The team's coach claimed all their players had their visas ready for the tournament. However, in 1win's official statement, the team admitted that there were implications with one of their player's visas.

In addition to that, they failed to resolve it in time despite ESL One granting them extra time. Unfortunately, the final deadline for 1win fell on a weekend when there was no official consulate available. As a result, they had to sit out ESL One Birmingham.

The Impact

ESL One Birmingham is part of ESL Pro Tour Season 2. At the end of the season, the top eight teams from EPT leaderboards will be directly qualified for Riyadh Masters 2024, which is part of the Esports World Cup.

Currently, OG is in the seventh place in the leaderboards. Given that the team failed to qualify for DreamLeague Season 23 and ESL One Birmingham, the team's placement is up for grabs.

ESL One Birmingham 2024 will have a total of twelve participating teams. The champions of the tournament will be awarded a prize of 300,000 USD. Furthermore, they will also receive 6400 EPT points, which could come in handy as there are only a few tournaments left to qualify for The Riyadh Masters 2024. ESL One Birmingham will officially begin on 22 April 2024.
