After missing out on winning the Worlds 2023 title after dominating LCK 2023, Gen.G today, 21st November, announced the departure of their 2023 roster. Much of the team’s core except Kim “Peyz” Su-hwan has parted ways with the organization.

GenG LoL 2023

During the 2022 off-season, Gen.G saw long-time member Park “Ruler” Jae-hyuk depart along with Son “Lehends” Si-woo. The squad together won the LCK Summer 2022 title. GenG brought in former Brion Esports player Yoo “Delight” Hwan-joong to take up Lehends spot and promoted a challengers team’s Peyz to fill in Ruler’s shoes.

The two youngsters filled in the gaps really well. Coming into the LCK Spring 2023 regular season, GenG dominated the LCK losing only five games and placed second behind T1. In the playoffs, GenG fell to the lower bracket finals but came back to defeat T1 in the Grand Finals to win the Spring title.

Going into MSI 2023, GenG could not reach the Grand Finals but fell to Bilibili Gaming to place 4th. They dominated the LCK Summer 2023 and continued their prime form. The team only lost 2 games, placing second once again behind KT Rolster.

GenG did not drop a single game and concluded their Korea domination, winning the LCK Summer 2023. They were the favorite LCK team to win the Worlds 2023 title alongside JD Gaming of the LPL.

But at the Worlds 2023, BLG defeated them in the quarterfinals. The series of disappointing international results definitely calls for a change. With the year 2024 in sight, GenG has announced the departure of the complete roster along with the coaching staff.

Conclusion

With Peyz as the only remaining member of the squad, it’d be interesting to see what GenG management will cook up for the 2024 roster. With multiple LCK squads looking to make changes, the LCK 2024 off season will be a blast.
