The ‘ascended’ G2 Esports Valorant, consisting of the former The Guard players, has added Nathan “leaf” Orf as the team’s duelist. G2 announced leaf’s addition earlier today, 25th October, 2024.

Leaf’s journey - A retrospect:

The CS alumni made a name for himself on the Chaos roster alongside Anthony “Vanity” Malaspina and Erick “Xeppa” Bach. He transitioned to Valorant in 2021 and joined Cloud9 Valorant, replacing Tyson “TenZ” Ngo.

Later that year, the C9 Valorant squad also brought in Xeppa, leaf’s teammate. Unfortunately, they struggled to succeed in 2021 until the arrival of Vanity. The reunited Vanity, Xeppa and leaf trio dominated the VCT NA LCQ and qualified for Valorant Champions 2021. They were the only NA team to qualify for the playoffs at the tournament.

Cloud9 was considered the top contender in 2022. Unfortunately, the results did not follow. During the second split, the team’s long-time member, Son “Xeta” Seon-ho, and coach Yoon “autumn” Yu-teum departed from the roster.

For VCT 2023, Cloud9 brought in Jacob “yay” Whittaker, Jordan “Zellsis” Montemurro, and Coach Mathew “mCe” Elmore. mCe had previously worked for the Chaos and with the trio. Despite the big names, C9 fumbled and eventually dropped yay and Vanity.

The rest of the pieces did enjoy domestic success but failed to qualify for the International tournaments. The C9 squad, except Xeppa and jakee, was dropped shortly after.

G2 Esports - The Saviour:

On the other side of this transaction, the Guard organization fumbled their promotion to the VCT Americas 2023. The lackluster attitude had put the roster’s future in jeopardy. Fortunately, the community stood behind the players, and Riot allowed G2 Esports to acquire the players and the promotion slot.

G2 Esports officially announced the squad on 23rd September 2023. The roster consisted of the four The Guard members without Ian “tex” Botsch. He later joined Leviatan alongside Erick “Aspas” Santos. In his announcement video, tex jokingly took a shot at G2 for not signing him.

With the duelist spot to be filled, G2 Esports had to find a talented piece with tier-1 experience. Leaf had previously dominated VCT Americas 2023 and was considered one of the best players. The roster move was long speculated, and G2 Esports announced it today.

The G2 Esports Valorant roster for 2024 is as follows:

The squad will play a showmatch against Sentinels on 26th September.
