It has recently surfaced on Twitter that OG Esports are parting ways with their position 3 player Ammar “ATF” Al-Assaf. This has come as a bit of a shock to many fans, especially fans of the organization. ATF started off as a pub star before he was recruited as part of the OG roster rebuild.

ATF moves on

OG released a tweet explaining that ATF would be moved to their “inactive roster”. In other words, he won’t be taking part with the squad in the upcoming DPC season. OG are allowing ATF to “explore other options” for the upcoming season. Whether this means that ATF still technically has a contract running with OG or if something has gone on behind the scenes remains to be seen.

All things considered, ATF and OG had a very successful season especially considering how new and young the squad still are. The team picked up a Major win this season which is why it comes as a big surprise that ATF is being moved on. ATF is sure to only be the start of player movements as we start hitting the all-too-familiar “post-TI shuffle”. The question is, will OG take the same approach of finding an unpolished gem, or will they look to get in an offlaner with real pedigree?

Potential position 3 replacements

There are already 1 or 2 two decent offlaner options who have moved on from their previous teams. Kpii has just been let go by Talon Esports, as they have recruited Fnatic’s Jabz as their new offlaner. Kpii is a seasoned veteran who has played for some top-tier teams in his time. This type of addition would maybe not be in the OG mold but Kpii is certainly a capable offlaner if OG can’t find someone else to fit the bill.

A shrewd pickup for OG may be that of South American offlaner Whisper. Whisper announced that he was looking for a new team after he recently left Beastcoast. Whisper had a great individual showing at TI11, putting on a few fantastic showings, even in games that his team lost.

We’ll be keeping a close eye on the movements of the OG roster. Chances are, they will recruit a diamond in the rough like they have done previously with their current roster. We are waiting with bated breath to see what kind of talent that might be able to uncover before the upcoming season starts.
