Game Changers World Champions G2 Gozen: VCT Game Changers Championship 2022 Finals Recap

After five days of intense Valorant action, we reach the Grand Finals of the VCT Game Changers Championship. Both the #2 seeds overcome the teams and their respective #1 seed to reach the Grand finals. The final two teams in G2 Gozen and Shopify Rebellion GC faced each other in a BO5 series to crown the inaugural VCT Game Changers Champion.

Team Introduction - G2 Gozen:

In EMEA, G2 Gozen was the team to beat. Since 2021, G2 Gozen has completely controlled the EMEA Game Changers scene.

Unfortunately, coming into the qualifying tournament, G2 fell to Guild X, making them the #2 seed in EMEA. But in the VCT Game Changers Championship, G2 is the only undefeated team beating KRU Fem, Cloud9 White, and Team Liquid Brazil to reach the finals.

Team Introduction - Shopify Rebellion GC:

Shopify Rebellion GC has always played second fiddle to Cloud9 White in NA Game Changers.

In the VCT Game Changers Championship, Shopify beat the EMEA #1 in the opening match. But an unfortunate loss to Team Liquid Brazil put them in the lower bracket. In the lower bracket, they beat X10 to face their rivals and the eternal Goliath of Cloud9 White. Shopify edged out the C9W goliaths to reach the Lower Bracket Finals. With the momentum in their favor, Shopify exacted their revenge against Liquid to reach the Grand Finals.

VCT Game Changers Championship Finals Recap:

Map Veto:

G2 picked Pearl and SR picked defense.
SR picks Bind, and G2 chooses to defend
G2 picks Ascent, and SR chooses defense.
SR picks Icebox, and G2 chooses defense.
Breeze stays as the decider.

Map 1 - Pearl:

Starting on the attack, G2 annihilated SR defense for the first five rounds. Shopify adjusted back and was able to equalize the first half. Shopify on attack was unstoppable and secured map point without letting G2 get a single round. G2 tried to answer with three rounds, but Shopify quickly closed the first map 13-9.

Map 2 - Bind:

Bind again started strong, but Shopify clawed back and won five rounds of their own. G2 eventually won the two last rounds to win the first half 7-5. Shopify on defense completely shut down G2s attack after an eco-win in round four of the second half and won the second map 13-9, going 2-0 in the BO5 series.

Map 3 - Ascent:

With their backs against the walls, G2 came into the third map. On attack, G2 completely dominated Shopify to win the first half 11-1. They capitalized on the lead to close the mao 13-3 to force a third map.

Map 4- Icebox:

G2 continued with the map three momentum and dominated Shopify in the first half. They converted the eight-round lead into a dominant 13-2 map win forcing the final map.

Map 5 - Breeze:

Shopify looked lost after the G2 comeback to equalize the series, leading to another G2 stomp in the first half of the final map. They continued their dominance in the second half closing the map 13-5.

G2 returned from a 0-2 deficit in the series to reverse sweep Shopify 3-2. And with the win, G2 Gozen is the Inaugural VCT Game Changers World Champions.
