Valve has finally bent the knee to the community when it comes to the CS2 Major Grand Finals. For the first time in CS history, starting with the StarLadder Budapest Major 2025, the grand finals of the prestigious event will now be a best-of-five series.

Changing with the Times

When Valve officially announced the switch from CS:GO to CS2, the biggest change to the competitive format was the shift to MR12. The shorter halves ensure individual maps conclude within an hour, making it easier for newer and younger audiences to engage with the game.

For Valve, this was an attempt to keep up with the changing tides of esports entertainment. What they failed to consider, however, was how short these matches became. Especially for a title as prestigious as a Major, MR12 Bo3s do not give teams enough room to stretch their legs, especially if one side starts the series quietly.

While all three past CS2 Majors were intense and often went the distance, best-of-five series in non-Major tournaments have consistently delivered more hype and showcased greater depth of skill, persistence, and mettle. With the Major at stake, these Bo5 clashes will only get more entertaining.

With the final stretch before Budapest already teasing plenty of action, Valve’s decision to switch to Bo5 only adds to the excitement for what could be the grandest Counter-Strike Major to date.

A Grand Celebration of Counter-Strike

Hosted at the MVM Dome, the StarLadder Budapest 2025 Major Playoffs will be played in front of a crowd of 20,000, marking the largest stage ever for a Counter-Strike Major. The competing teams will face off in the center of a 360° arena, surrounded by fans.

Some of the best broadcast talent will also be present to hype up the crowd and call the action, including fan-favorite duos SPUNJ & Machine, and Scrawny & Launders.

Starting November 24, 32 teams will battle through the first three stages of the competition at the MTK Sportpark, fighting for their ticket to the MVM Dome, where they’ll compete for a lion’s share of $1,250,000 and the second Major title of 2025.

Tickets for the all Major stages are up for grabs.

  • Stage 1-3 tickets can be found here for as low as €10.
  • Playoffs tickets at the MVM Dome are available here for as low as €70.

Another Early Exit, Same Old Story: Team Falcons Are Running Out Of Excuses

There is a cruel irony at the heart of Team Falcons' CS2 project. Hand someone from 2022 their current roster sheet — NiKo, m0NESY, TeSeS, Kyxsan, kyosuke, all under the tutelage of five-time Major-winning coach Zonic — and they would confidently declare this team the undisputed best in the world. And yet, here we are in March 2026, watching Falcons get knocked out of BLAST Open Spring in the quarterfinals by PARIVISION.
