The Goonternational, a tournament hosted by one of the most adored Dota 2 personalities, Pyrion Flax, has returned for 2023. As everyone is keeping a close eye on the upcoming TI qualifiers, the Dota 2 personality announced the return of the Goonternational after its first successful debut year in 2022.

What is The Goonternational?

Unlike The International, which focuses on the best Dota 2 players in the world, Goonternational is the opposite of it. Goonternational features players who are mediocre at the game. It is a charitable event, and the winner gets to choose which organisation they want the donation to go into. Last year, the tournament raised $2188 for charity. The 2022 Goonternational champions, Live Laugh Luton, donated the money raised to Medicins Sans Frontiers ( also known as Doctors without Borders), an organisation providing medical aid to vulnerable people across the globe.

The Registration & Some Information

Not like The International, a team doesn’t have to compete in DPC to enter the tournament hosted by Pyrion Flax. Instead, they need to subscribe to Pyrion Flax’s Twitch channel and be a member of his discord channel. The maximum skill ceiling for the tournament is mid Legend which is around 3000-3500 MMR.

The participating teams will need to clarify the players’ roles, i.e. which players are supports and which players will play core. Slightly higher or lower players can argue against the organisers to participate in the tournament. Registration will close on August 25th. Each team must have a selected designated individual for contacting and communicating the schedule details to the organisers.

The Group Stages will commence on August 28th and ends on September 24. The lengthy date is because, unlike professional players, players playing at this tournament are players who have day-to-day jobs and errands to run.

The playoffs will start on October 2nd, and the grand finals are on October 8th. Much like the regular tournaments, there will also be casters as well. Overall, with the right intentions and all, this is set to be a great community tournament for amateur players.
