With the meta in Dota 2 patch 7.39 slowly settling in, we are starting to notice certain trends in the pub and pro landscape. And despite innovations still taking place, certain carries are definitely stronger than others (at least for now!). And while Dota is an incredibly complex game with innumerable factors deciding which team will get the juicy MMR points, having a strong set of comfort heroes certainly tips the scales in your favor.

In this article, we will list the best carries to grind MMR with in Dota 2 patch 7.39. Remember that MMR is a mere reflection of not just skill, but also time played and the heroes you pick. And we are here to help you with the last one, as we help you break down how to reach the top!

The Best Carries To Grind MMR In Dota 2 Patch 7.39

Wraith King - The King is (still) back!

Wraith King saw a meteoric rise from obscurity to prominence in the last few patches, and despite mostly getting nerfed in 7.39 and losing a bit of his win rate, he remains among the best carries to spam to get MMR.

While the hero is mechanically among the easiest heroes in the game, I would argue that he’s quite a good hero to play to practice your fundamentals (like map movements, in-fight decision making, timings) because you have a lot of spare headspace due to his simple kit. That means that on top of seeing your happy number go up, you’re also actually becoming a better all-around player. Long live the king!

Ursa – The Raid Boss

Another hero that basically just got nerfed in the past few patches, he remains a strong contender in the carry position. The reason for that is simple: he can still do (almost) everything. He has strong laning (against melee heroes), is great at taking early objectives due to his ability to take Roshan really early, and scales like an absolute monster due to his built-in status and damage resistance.

Just make sure you pick him together with a support that can match your tempo, and try not to end up in a situation where you’re laning as double melee against double ranged.

Clinkz – Rattle my bones

Clinkz is great with Khanda.
Supports beware! (Credit: Valve).

This slippery skeleton is among the most aggressive options on this list. So if bullying supports from start to finish is your jam, Clinkz may be the hero for you!

Most players are still picking the suppressive fire facet (to make sure you can also manfight other carries) and rushing desolator to hit a really early timing, and then picking up items like bloodthorn, daedalus, scythe of vyse, and bkb (ha, I wish) when the situation calls for it.

While Clinkz is a hero that can work in almost any game, he works best when having a tanky lane partner to secure the space for you to right-click enemies in lane, and when playing against heroes that don’t have innate escape capabilities – I wasn’t kidding when I said he likes bullying. Clinkz works way better against heroes like Keeper of the light or Huskar than against the likes of Phantom Lancer or Abbadon.

Spectre – We all love ghost ladies

Spectre has been enjoying a renaissance ever since becoming a universal hero, and Dota 2 patch 7.39 provided additional buff to an already strong hero, namely reducing her Desolate radius (which sounds like a nerf, but actually means that enemies will take Desolate damage more often because the search radius for allies is smaller). On top of that, Valve also buffed level 1 shadow step (while level 2 stays the same, and level 3 was nerfed slightly), which improves the early game of a late-game monster.

Spectre is perhaps a bit more vulnerable than the other carries on this list, as she really requires a true babysitter in lane, as her own laning is quite weak and she doesn’t jungle that well early. That being said, she is one of the carries with both the highest reach and the highest effective HP, on top of some juicy pure damage, so she brings a lot to the table.

So get yourself a pocket warlock or dazzle, put that bloodthorn in your quickbuy, and make those supports, snipers, and tinkers miserable!

That concludes the list of the best carries to spam in the new Dota 2 patch 7.39 meta. Keep in mind which heroes you can play well, and dedication and mindset are just as, if not more important than, which broken heroes you pick. But having a good insight into which heroes are strong is never a bad thing!
