The Canadian based esports organization Shopify Rebellion is officially joining the League of Legends scene via the LCS in 2024. They will be taking Team SoloMid's spot as they depart the LCS.

Shopify Rebellion's Announcement

Shopify Rebellion announced their official entry to the LCS on their X account. Shopify's esports program development lead, Dario "TLO" Wünsch made a statement in the announcement.

"Entering League of Legends - one of the largest esports titles, with a rich competitive history - felt like an obvious next step for us as we continue to grow our presence in esports."

This adds another major esports title to Rebellion's belt as they already have teams in the VALORANT, StarCraft, Dota 2, Halo, Street Fighter 6, and Rocket League scenes.

Additionally, they officially announced that they are going to acquire the former TSM roster in its entirety. The only difference is that they will be competing "under the Shopify Rebellion banner." The roster is as follows:

  • Top Lane - Kevin "Hauntzer" Yarnell
  • Jungle - Lee "Bugi" Seong-Yeop
  • Mid Lane - David "Insanity" Challe
  • ADC - Jason "WildTurtle" Tran
  • Support - Johnathan "Chime" Pomponio
  • Head Coach - Seong "Reven" Sang-Hyeon

Final Day in the LCS

Alongside Shopify's major announcement, TSM made a farewell post on their X account. As it is their official final day in the LCS, they reminisce the journey the organization had gone through. Through "11 years, 7 domestic championships, [and] 1 international title" they have clearly made their mark on the LCS as a dedicated, veteran organization. However, they are not exiting the LoL scene as they have stated previously that they plan to move to another major region. What region they plan to compete in is still a mystery to most.

Final Thoughts

With TSM leaving the LCS births the debut of Shopify Rebellion. We will see how the dynamics between the former TSM roster and their new management team will fare in the later upcoming 2024 LCS season. Many will look forward to see whether Rebellion will rise to the top or if they will struggle as management navigates the new scene.
