Riot Games Unveils Path to Champions for EMEA Challengers Teams and New VCT Tournament
The 2026 VALORANT Champions Tour (VCT) season is set to kick off in just a few weeks as 2025 comes to a close. With it comes the anticipation of renewed clashes between fan-favourite teams and exhilarating competition. Perhaps one of the biggest questions as we head into the new season is the fairly recent news that Challenger teams will be offered a path straight to VCT Champions, the pinnacle of competition for the Tier 1 VALORANT scene. With that said, VCT EMEA has now unveiled their own plans for how that path will look in 2026. Let’s take a look.
Blurring the Divisions: Tiers 1 and 2 Face Off in 2026
VCT EMEA kick off their announcement with a banger, a new tournament - VALORANT EMEA Clash.
Select VCT EMEA teams that fail to qualify for VCT Masters Santiago will now earn the opportunity to play in this new tournament, where they’ll face the top EMEA Challenger teams for some incredible matchups.
Set to run between February 16th to the 26th, the tournament will provide the first opportunity for Challenger EMEA teams to go up against VCT EMEA teams. Not only an exciting prospect for viewers to witness never-seen before faceoffs, but also an invaluable experience for teams as they gear up for the rest of the year and later opportunities in Stages 2 and 3.
One of the largest ongoing criticisms of the current VCT partnership system has to be its closed-circuit nature. Tier 2 teams in the Challengers circuit have had no opportunities to test their strength against the established partner teams, with both tiers kept separate from one another throughout the entire year. The one chance a Tier 2 team was given, was a qualification to Ascension at the end of the season and a single coveted spot to advance to the partner league as a guest.
In 2026, Riot are looking to improve opportunities for the Challengers teams. Still maintaining a three-stage seasonal format, every league will now begin the year with a hosted Kickoff tournament in Stage 1. However, there’s an incredible incentive now, the best teams from Kickoff will qualify for the new tournament.
Challenger Tournaments Return in 2026!
VCT EMEA has also announced the return of the Challengers tournaments in EMEA, with three to look forward to in 2026:
- Challengers EMEA Stage 1: March 16th – 31st
- Challengers EMEA Stage 2: May 18th – 28th
- Challengers EMEA Stage 3: June 22nd – July 6th
Stage 1 Kickoff has been given a range from January 5th to begin and can run up until February 12th. Each Challenger League organizer is given discretion to set their own dates and formats, so stay connected with your local tournament organizers for updates.

Challengers Circuit to See Qualifiers Introduced
Ahead of Challengers EMEA Stage 1 and 2, qualifier tournaments have been introduced with the spots for the top 2 teams from each region and 4 from NORTH/EAST in each tournament, for a total of 14 teams competing.
The first qualifier tournament is set to take place at the tail end of February and run to the middle of March, while the second is set for the start of May and run until the mid of the same month.
For Challengers EMEA Stage 3, qualification will differ due to the stakes of the event. Here’s the breakdown:
- 8 of the best teams from regional Challengers Leagues will be given slots.
- 2 from NORTH/EAST
- 1 from MENA Resilience
- 1 from France Revolution
- 1 from DACH Evolution
- 1 from Spain Rising
- 1 from Türkiye Birlik
- 8 additional teams qualifying via Challenger circuit points.
- A total of 16 teams in the final Challengers EMEA tournament of the year.
- Qualifier for VCT EMEA Stage 2 Play-Ins
Challengers to Champions: A Path Opens
A total of 4 spots will be available for Challenger teams from Stage 3 but two opportunities to seize for the teams. Firstly, the top 3 performing teams in Challengers EMEA 3 will immediately qualify for VCT EMEA Stage 2 Play-Ins.
The second opportunity will come with a Last Chance Qualifier (LCQ) event, where vying teams will get one final opportunity to take that first step towards Champions. More details on VCT EMEA Stage 2 Play-Ins will be shared at a later date including date and format. VCT EMEA describes it as the first-ever destination event.

Game Changers Introduces Cash Cups for 2026
The format for Game Changers EMEA will remain mostly the same in 2026 with one new introduction, the Game Changers EMEA circuit. In addition to the standard regional tournaments, Cash Cups will be introduced to provide teams with more chances to compete, earn points, and improve their ranking.
These monthly tournaments will be open to all Game Changer teams and include both regional GC teams as well as GC EMEA teams. Similar to the Challengers EMEA 3 promotion to VCT EMEA Stage 3 Play-Ins, Cash Cups will provide Game Changer teams with the opportunity to forge their own path to the Game Changers Championship. Moreover, to incentivize participation, these Cash Cups will be completely online for easy and flexible participation.
Finally, VCT EMEA has announced that the top teams across all Regional Challenger Leagues will also be given the opportunity to qualify for the Promotion/Relegation tournaments in Game Changers EMEA, with two such events scheduled for next year and two opportunities for teams to secure their spot in Game Changers Tier 1.
