Riot Games has finally put months of speculation to rest by officially announcing VALORANT Mobile, developed in partnership with LIGHTSPEED STUDIOS. The announcement was made via Riot’s official X account. Thus confirming that the mobile version of the highly successful tactical shooter is now a reality.

The mobile adaptation is being developed by LIGHTSPEED STUDIOS, a renowned game development studio under Tencent Games. Founded in 2011 through the merger of Quantum Studios and LightSpeed, the studio is headquartered in Shenzhen, China. It is best known for developing blockbuster mobile titles such as PUBG Mobile and Peacekeeper Elite - both titles which have found immense success globally.

Given Tencent’s ownership of both Riot Games and LIGHTSPEED STUDIOS, the collaboration makes strategic sense. With LIGHTSPEED’s proven track record in the mobile gaming space, particularly with competitive shooters, expectations for VALORANT Mobile are already sky-high.

China First: Pre-Registration Begins April 21

VALORANT Mobile is set to launch initially in China, with pre-registration kicking off on April 21, 2025. Players who sign up early will receive exclusive in-game rewards, including unique player cards. The pre-registration date was first spotted on the Huawei App Store, which also listed the game under the localized title Valorant: Energy Operation — a name that may be exclusive to the Chinese market.

Riot has not yet confirmed whether this title will be used globally or if it’s specific to China’s release, suggesting that international markets could see a different version or name when the game rolls out more widely.

A Long-Awaited Move

The conversation around VALORANT Mobile has been ongoing for years, with Riot previously admitting that a mobile version of the game was in development. Now, with pre-registration going live, it’s clear that Riot is preparing for a full-scale entry into the mobile shooter market.

While details about a global launch remain scarce, this announcement marks a significant milestone for Riot and its plans to expand VALORANT beyond PC. For fans eager to take their agents on the go, the wait might finally be nearing its end.
