Riot Games has announced a series of significant changes to the VALORANT EMEA ecosystem, impacting Challengers, Game Changers, and Premier competitions. These updates want to enhance the Path to Pro and foster a more competitive environment for aspiring VALORANT professionals.

Challengers EMEA: New Structure and Championship Points

Starting in 2025, the VALORANT Challengers EMEA will adopt a new three-stage structure. Each stage will consist of regular league play, followed by the new "Challengers EMEA" tournament. This tournament will feature the top two teams from each Challengers League, who will compete for Championship Points. These points will determine which teams qualify for the prestigious Ascension tournament, where they can earn a spot in the VCT EMEA the following year.

Expansion to Spain

In an exciting development, Italy and Portugal will join "Challengers Spain: Rising" in 2025. This merger will create a stronger, more competitive league, aligning with the Premier Zone structure to ensure a seamless connection throughout the ecosystem. Challengers Spain will feature eight teams, selected based on performance in the 2024 season and through a qualifying tournament. The league will include:

  • The top four teams from Challengers Spain: Rising;
  • The top team from Challengers Italy: Rinascimento;
  • The top team from Challengers Portugal: Tempest;
  • One wildcard spot;
  • The winner of a qualifying tournament;

Game Changers: Introducing the "Express Lane"

To support the growth of women in VALORANT EMEA, Riot is introducing the "Express Lane" Mechanic for Game Changers teams. This new system will allow these teams to compete in Open Qualifiers without conflicting with overlapping Game Changers events. This initiative provides consistent opportunities for women in the competitive scene and promote greater participation in co-ed Challengers teams.

Premier and VRCs

Premier will continue to serve as the preferred Path to Pro within the EMEA region. Riot Games will maintain the VALORANT Regional Circuits (VRCs) to nurture competition and enable teams to qualify for promotion and relegation tournaments. Teams will have the opportunity to compete in both Premier and VRC throughout the year, offering more chances for aspiring pros to hone their skills.

Looking ahead: Stage 3 of 2024

As the 2024 season progresses, several exciting tournaments are lined up for Stage 3, beginning after Ascension. These events will feature a mix of Challengers League teams, Premier teams, and open qualifiers. Key dates include:

  • Challengers Spain: Rising – September 25
  • Challengers DACH: Evolution – September 27
  • Challengers East: Surge – October 4
  • Challengers North: Polaris – November (exact date TBD)

**Additional details for Challengers France: Revolution, Turkey: Birlik, and MENA: Resilience will be announced later.
