After all of the latest controversy surrounding Riot Games' decision to remove Hextech Chests from the game entirely, the gaming giants have retracted in their latest Dev Update, announcing they are bringing back Hextech Chests to League of Legends.

Coming with the release of patch 25.S1.5 on March 5th, Hextech Chests will be earnable through the Battle Pass instead of through Champion Mastery, as was the case in the past.

Hextech Chests: Different, but still the same

Hextech Chests are making a comeback! Instead of being earnable through Champion Mastery, however, chests will now be tied to the Act's ongoing Battle Pass. Let's go ahead and take a look at exactly how Hextech Chests can be earned moving forward:

  • Up to ten chests and keys will be earnable per Act.
  • Eight of these chests will come with the free track of the Battle Pass.
  • These eight chests will replace the Seasonal skin and any other 1350 RP or lower skins from the Pass.
  • The remaining two chests per Act can be earned with Honor instead.

With chests returning to League of Legends, Riot Games has stated that all of these chests, whether earned through the Battle Pass or through Honor, will be identical to the ones that were earnable through Champion Mastery in the past. The decision to tie Hextech Chests to the Battle Pass instead of Champion Mastery aims to ensure that chests can be earned by anyone, regardless of playstyle, champion, or game mode preferences.

Meanwhile, by adding two chests to be earned through the new Honor System with every Act, players are encouraged to avoid toxicity with the promise of Hextech Chests for honorable behavior. For now, though, these Honor Chests will be granted through Missions instead while Riot continues to work on the revamped Honor System.

More updates coming to League of Legends

Hextech Chests aside, Riot Games have announced several more changes coming to the game in an attempt to appease the masses following their latest string of questionable decisions. These updates include all of the following:

  • The Blue Essence cost of acquiring new champions in League of Legends will be lowered by 50% across the board in an effort to make the experience smoother for new players.
  • The new Exalted Morderkaiser skin will be delayed to take more time to work on the finished product.
  • The quality of all future Exalted skins will be improved.
  • Clash will be returning to its original monthly schedule.
  • Your Shop will return with patch 25.S1.6.
  • Blue Essence Emporium is coming back in patch 25.S1.7.
  • Riot also revealed that the champions receiving skins with the paid track of the Act II Battle Pass will be Darius, Sion, and Talon.
