Reforged Swords: Team Heretics unveils LEC Summer Split 2023 roster

Professional League of Legends roster Team Heretics has unveiled their Summer Split roster for the LEC 2023. Looking to shake up their season with some fresh blood, they have added a former LEC champion to the lineup.

Victor “Flakked” Lirola Tortosa has been called up from Team Heretics’ academy team to replace departing AD Carry Jakob “Jackspektra” Gullvag Kepple. Furthermore, Heretics is also adding former Excel midlaner Vincent “Vetheo” Berrié to replace departing midlaner Lee “Ruby” Sol-min.

Major Changes

“Jackspektra” is reported to be swapping teams with “Flakked” and will be playing with the Team Heretics’ academy team for the time being. “Vetheo” meanwhile, was reported earlier this year to have been benched in favor of Felix “Abbedagge” Braun following Excel’s poor performance in 2023 in the Winter and Spring Splits. "Ruby" meanwhile, was reported to be heading to TSM, which has now been confirmed.

“Flakked” is most well-known for his time on G2 Esports in 2022, where they won the LEC 2022 Spring Playoffs as well as placed 1st in the Summer Split. G2 also barely lost to Rogue in the Summer Playoffs, placing 2nd there. “Flakked” is recognized for having won the LEC in his rookie season, a testament to his incredible mechanics in his debut season.

Reuniting with an Old Teammate

“Flakked’s” addition to the roster will reunite the Spaniard with former G2 teammate Marcin “Jankos” Jankowski, with whom he won his earlier accolades. In “Jankos” departure video from G2, he spoke well of “Flakked” and his time with that roster. The return of the synergy between the two may do well for Heretic’s performance come the Summer Split. Both “Flakked” and “Jankos” attended the 2022 Mid-Season Invitational (MSI) and Worlds 2022. Despite not performing as well as expected, that G2 lineup was still a very strong contender domestically, strong enough to consistently make deep runs and international tournaments.

Floundering Roster

Team Heretics has struggled massively in both prior splits to make consistent performances. The roster managed to make it to the Group Stage in the Winter Split but failed to replicate that for the Spring Split. They placed 6th in the Winter Split and 9th in the Spring Split, with increasingly poor results and losses. Thus, their roster changes reflect their desire to shake things up and finally post some wins in this upcoming Summer Split.

Team Heretics' current roster is as follows:

  • Shunsuke "Evi" Murase (Top)
  • Marcin "Jankos" Jankowski (Jungler)
  • Vincent "Vetheo" Berrié (Mid)
  • Victor "Flakked" Lirola Tortosa (Bot)
  • Mertai "Mersa" Sari (Support)

Team Heretics' first game will be on the 17th of June against SK Gaming. Catch all the games live on Twitch and Youtube. Catch all the latest League of Legends news on Strafe Esports.
