In a shocking turn of events today, PGL announced that their highly anticipated return to Kraków for 2027 has hit a major roadblock as TAURON Arena has cancelled their venue booking. The cancellation comes mere hours after the initial announcement of PGL's planned return to the Polish city.

The Cancellation

The venue's sudden withdrawal stems from a competing commitment, as TAURON Arena received confirmation that Kraków Municipality had already scheduled the venue for a recurring event scheduled for January that will be happening for the next three years, including 2027.

Below is a portion of the message received by PGL from a TAURON Arena representative:

"I saw your announcement and at the same time we've received confirmation from the Municipality of Kraków that Krakow will be a host city and co-organizer of cyclical event which will take place in January for the next 3 years (Jan 2026, Jan 2027 and Jan 2028). I am very sorry to inform you that we have to cancel your reservation for January 18–25, 2027 (Main Arena) and January 12–20, 2027 (Small Arena)."

These unfortunate circumstances directly conflicts with PGL's planned dates of January 13-25, 2027. Now, PGL released the following statement during their official announcement regarding the cancellation:

"We regret to inform you that the Kraków Municipality has designated TAURON Arena for a recurring event scheduled for January over the next three years, which includes 2027.

We are actively seeking an alternative venue that recognizes the significance of esports and embraces its global audience."

Moving Forward

The cancellation is particularly disappointing for the Counter-Strike community, as PGL Major Kraków 2017 holds a special place in competitive CS:GO history. The 2027 event was meant to celebrate this legacy, marking a decade since the original tournament.

PGL has assured fans that the tournament will proceed as scheduled, albeit at a different location. The organization has promised to share updates regarding the new venue as soon as they become available.

The esports community now eagerly awaits news of where this prestigious tournament will ultimately take place, as PGL works to maintain their commitment to delivering a world-class competitive experience.
