PGL, the renowned esports tournament organizer, has officially disclosed the locations for the Regional Major Ranking (RMR) events, marking the final leg of qualification leading up to the highly anticipated PGL CS2 Major Copenhagen. Simultaneously, PGL has initiated open qualifiers across all regions, allowing eager teams to register for the opportunity to compete.

Taking center stage will be PGL's hometown of Bucharest, Romania, hosting the 32-team European RMR from February 14 to 24. This leg will feature a format comprising two Swiss groups and a last-chance bracket, ultimately determining the teams advancing to the Major.

The Asian RMR will unfold in Shanghai, China, with eight elite teams battling it out from February 26 to 28. Concurrently, Monterrey, Mexico, will host the Americas RMR, bringing together 16 formidable teams from March 1 to 4.

RMR Tournaments - A gateway to CS2 Majors' qualification

These RMR tournaments hold significant weight in determining the 24 teams set to participate in the PGL CS2 Major Copenhagen, scheduled to take place from March 17 to 31. Building on their performances at the BLAST.tv Paris Major, Europe will secure 17 spots, followed by the Americas with five spots and Asia with two.

Teams with three-man cores placing in the top 16 of the BLAST.tv Paris Major will receive direct invitations to the Regional Major Ranking events. The remaining slots will be filled through a two-stage online qualifier process, commencing with the open stage kicking off on January 8.

Valve's Major seeding overhaul

Valve has also implemented a significant overhaul of the Major seeding process ahead of the PGL Major Copenhagen. Departing from the previous reliance solely on Regional Major Rankings (RMRs), Valve now employs a system that seeds the 24 qualifying teams based on its Regional Standings. This new approach aims to address scenarios where top-ranked teams could receive lower seeds due to underwhelming RMR performances.

Valve has also introduced pre-determined pairings for the first Swiss round of the Major and renamed the tournament stages from 'Challengers,' 'Legends,' and 'Champions' to 'Opening,' 'Elimination,' and 'Playoffs,' respectively. These changes, coupled with a farewell to 'Contenders,' 'Challengers,' and 'Legends' designations for participating teams, mark a significant shift in the Major tournament structure, promising a more equitable evaluation of teams and an enhanced viewing experience for fans.

Teams looking to secure a spot in the RMR events can participate in the open qualifiers, organized via Challengermode. The schedule for open qualifiers is as follows:
