Ever since her release in 2023, Naafiri has continuously been one of the least played champions in the game. In order to address some of the reasons that make her kit unappealing or easy to punish, Riot Games has decided to rework Naafiri through her new midscope update.

With her dwindling number of picks coming almost exclusively from the mid lane, Naafiri's rework aims to allow the champion to be played in the jungle, as well as give her more access to her Packmates (dogs). Note that no official release date for the rework has been announced, but the new look Naafiri will be coming to the PBE during patch 25.05, where you can try her kit for yourself.

Information regarding Naafiri's rework has been taken from an X (Twitter) post by August "RiotAugust" Browning, a Lead Designer on League of Legends. As per RiotAugust himself, some of the overall goals for the rework are as follows:

  • + Casting W is better in combat and makes Naafiri untargetable
  • + Jungle clear
  • + E Mobility
  • + More packmates passively
  • -Overall damage down
  • -Packmate damage and defense down to account for increased numbers

Without further ado, let's take a look at what Naafiri's kit will look like after the rework

Naafiri rework: Complete list of changes

New Naafiri: Assassin or Bruiser?

Though the changes are only just hitting the PBE, and numbers for her rework are likely to change before her official release, the direction of the changes begs the question: will Naafiri perform better as a bruiser now?

Generally, champions with lower base HP levels (Naafiri is losing HP with the rework) perform better by going into a build that let's them combine AD with HP. Likewise, given the increased mobility Naafiri is receiving by having easier access to a movement speed buff in the form of [W] The Call of the Pack, going for more durability could make the champion very tough to deal with in prolonged exchanges, while her increased access to Packmates can also help block more skillshots.

Ultimately, the rework is still in its very early stages, though. The champion definitely needed to be looked at, and it will be interesting to see where Naafiri's rework ends up taking the Hound of a Hundred Bites in the end.
