Muerta, the newly released Dota 2 hero, had never quite found her footing upon release. Players were quick to figure her out. For a hero that took five months, her first impressions were underwhelming. Her abilities were complex for a beginner to use and understand. Upon her release, even though the hero is an intended core hero, it was not where the hero resided. Players were quick to figure out she suited better as a support rather than a core.

Her abilities were lacklustre, and it wasn’t long before her statistics started backing up the claims.

Not too broken

Dota 2 has a tradition where the newly released hero is broken. Either the newly released hero’s stats were way too good, or the hero’s abilities were too good, and in most cases, it’s both.

The most broken hero upon release was Monkey King. Players that encountered Monkey King during his release know how strong the hero Jingu Mastery’s stacks and Boundless Strikes were back then. Also, don’t forget about the hero’s ultimate ability Wukong’s Command, cancelling out teleports with bashes when Monkey King picks up a basher. Simply put, Monkey King was a different hero back then.

However, over time Valve progresses. Primal Beast was the hero released before Muerta, and it was a different kind of broken during its release. Primal Beast's abilities were sophisticated, and it took a while for players to figure out the hero before realising what it offers.

The Solution?

Players found out that the hero fell off in the late game. Black King Bar also heavily counters the hero. To encourage players to play Muerta as a core more, Valve released a minor update on  March 17th, buffing the hero, making Muerta the only hero to receive buffs after the release.

The hero’s attack speed and her ultimate ability got buffed. It also did some reworks on Muerta’s Talent Tree. Due to the recent buffs, the hero’s pick rate is now 25.37% in high-level pubs and a win rate of 51.13%.
