In a turn of events, Cloud9's head coach, Alfonso Aguirre "Mithy" Rodríquez, has announced his departure from the organization on X. The news comes after Cloud9's recent performance in the 2024 LCS Spring Split Playoffs. Despite the promising start to the season, the team's final matches left fans reeling from disappointment.

Mithy's Commitment

Mithy's tenure as head coach with Cloud9 began a year and a half ago. Having had previous experience as head coach with C9 a couple years prior, Mithy brought a wealth of knowledge and experience to the team. His reappointment was seen as a pivotal moment for Cloud9, signalling their commitment to claim LCS split trophies and eventually being a strong contender at MSI and Worlds.

This was proven true in 2023 where Cloud9 was one of the strongest North American teams. Under the guidance of Mithy, Cloud9 had an aggressive and dynamic playstyle that left their opponent scrambling to keep up. In this season, that same energy they once brought started to falter.

Despite their early successes, Cloud9's journey was not without its challenges. As the season progressed, the team encountered setbacks and obstacles that tested their resolve. Inconsistencies in performance and lapses in communication plagued their gameplay, leading to unexpected losses and missed opportunities. Ultimately, this left C9 with a sour ending in the Spring split.

End of an Era

As Cloud9 bids farewell to Mithy, they now find themselves at a crossroads. Roster changes are on the horizon for many, especially C9 as the organization refocuses their efforts for the challenges to come. While Mithy's departure marks the end of an era, it also presents and opportunity for growth for both Mithy and Cloud9.

Cloud9 has also teased potential changes to rosters with an X post stating "Expect the unexpected". Stay tuned to Strafe.com for any further breaking news and updates.
