Round 3 of the Worlds 2024 Swiss Stage is over, and the first two teams to be eliminated from the event are Europe's MAD Lions KOI and Brazil's paiN Gaming.

After LNG and Gen.G secured the first two spots in the Quarterfinals just days ago, MDK and PNG say goodbye to the Swiss Stage, and Worlds, off the other end.

GAM proves too much for MDK to handle

MDK came into the first series of the day as the favorites to take the win over the VCS first seed of GAM Esports. After a convincing Game 1 win by the Lions in just over 20 minutes of play, MDK looked poised to take their first win of the Swiss Stage.

GAM, however, woke up just in time. On the brink of elimination from Worlds GAM opted to go for an aggressive, all-out comp for Game 2 which proved to make the game unplayable for MDK's Supa on Xayah. After taking over the game late, the Vietnamese team were ready for a final game.

Ultimately, MDK proved they still have a ways to go if they want to make the LEC proud on the biggest stage, as they were dismantled by GAM in the final game of their Worlds 2024.

After a tough loss to the Vietnamese GAM, it's time for MDK and the rest of the LEC to take a good hard look at themselves before the following season.

Result: MAD Lions KOI 1 - 2 GAM Esports

Team Liquid and paiN Gaming set the tone for 2025

In a matchup we might just see again throughout 2025 with the new Americas league taking over from the LCS and CBLOL, Team Liquid eliminated paiN Gaming from Worlds 2024.

TL's Yeon decided to take matters into his own hands to start off the series, finishing Game 1 with a 9/0/3 scoreline off an impressive performance on Kai'Sa.

PaiN Gaming came back to the stage ready to turn Game 2 into a much more competitive affair. The Brazilian representatives opted to go for the Nocturne/Orianna combo in the draft for the second time, executing it far better this time around.

In the end, however, though PNG looked great all game long, one single decisive team-fight was all it took for Team Liquid to run down PNG's base, ending the game along with the hopes of all Brazilian fans.

With survival on the line, the exciting series may just have been the beginning of a lasting American rivalry.

Result: Team Liquid 2 - 0 paiN Gaming
