Junyoung “Profit” Park, legendary DPS player for the Overwatch League (OWL) and Seoul Dynasty, has left the organization after three years. “Profit” now enters the realm of unrestricted FA (free agency), meaning other organizations are free to contact him, and he is free to explore his options as well. The official announcement from Seoul Dynasty came early this morning, on the 30th of Nov.

In the announcement, the South Korea based organization expressed their ‘deepest gratitude’ to “Profit” and wished him well. Prior to Seoul Dynasty, “Profit” played for GC Busan and London Spitfire. The former stint lasted less than a year while the latter was for two years. This makes “Profit’s” time on Seoul Dynasty the longest he has stayed with any OWL organization.

Tasty prospects

“Profit” is one of the most celebrated Overwatch player, having won numerous accolades and titles over his 5-year-long career. Having frequently been introduced into conversations for best DPS player of all time, and potentially GOAT material (Greatest of all time), he has continuously made the argument for himself through consistent star-level performances.

Since entering the OWL and London Spitfire, he won the Inaugural Season Stage 1 Title Matches against a powerhouse NYXL and the Inaugural Season Playoffs in 2018. Let us pause for a moment, he won the OWL’s biggest tournament to date, with a 1,000,000 USD prize pool in his debut year.

In 2020, he made the move to Seoul Dynasty. He would place second at the May Melee, the Asia Playoffs, and the Playoffs Grand Finals, narrowly losing to San Francisco Shock. In 2022, a first-place finish at the Kickoff Clash, second at the Summer Showdown and 1st in the East side regular season (4th overall).

“Profit” has also been the recipient of MVP awards for his Playoffs victory in 2018 on London Spitfire, and the Role-Star Damage award in 2022. He is also the first OWL player to reach a count of 10,000 total eliminations. Specialising in both hitscan and projectile-based DPS, “Profit” undoubtedly just became one of the hottest commodities on the free agent market.

History shines on him

Since his inaugural debut into the OWL with his Playoffs win, “Profit” has consistently been one of the highlights of the OWL and one of it’s best DPS players. A mechanical prodigy from the onset, his signing to Seoul Dynasty was one of the most exciting developments for the South Korean organization. Consisting of players like Myeonghwan “smurf” Yoo and Seonghyun “JJoNak” Bang, it was an assembling of an Eastern superteam.

Even going back to before the OWL, “Profit” was the ace of the GC Busan roster, a South Korean Overwatch team that shattered all expectations, placing 1st at the Road to Apex, Apex Season 4, and APAC Premier 2017, as well as 2nd in the Apex Challengers Season 4, and WEGL Overwatch Invitational.

Having won multiple awards, titles and having competed as long as he has at that level, it is easy to see why his name continuously pops up in contention for Greatest to ever do it.

What Happens Next?

With his entry into Free Agency, and multiple team roster rebuilds in the off-season, it will be interesting to see where “Profit” ends up landing. Rival team Hangzhou Spark recently had a power run through the lower bracket gauntlet of Playoffs, ending ahead of Seoul Dynasty. Ailing former Playoffs champions Shanghai Dragons could be another potential destination for the Korean hitman. Regardless of where he ends up, it is unlikely his story his story ends here.

Fans eagerly await the next announcement of his new home.
