As reported by Alejandro “Anonimotum” Gomis,  Eric “Licorice” Ritchie has reached a verbal agreement with Dignitas. Should this move go through, Licorice will join Dignitas for their upcoming 2024 Summer Split, replacing current Dignitas Top Laner Lee “Rich” Jae-won.

This would mark Licorice’s return to the LCS after 5 months on the sidelines following the dissolution of the Golden Guardians League of Legends roster. The Canadian top laner was considered one of the best in his role in the LCS prior to suddenly losing his place in the league, peaking at 2nd place in the LCS 2023 Spring Playoffs.

Back in Action

In November 2023, Golden Guardians was reported to be one of the two organizations departing from the LCS. Their sudden decision to cut from the league left ten players scrambling for positions. Miraculously, 8 of the 10 found new homes – Licorice being one of the only two left out in the cold.

While his former ADC Trevor “Stixxay” Hayes was a solid veteran, Licorice was still considered one of the best and most exciting top laners in North America. Thus, not being picked up by teams in the transitional period was a fair surprise.

Dignitas Making Moves

After a lukewarm Spring Split run, Dignitas unsurprisingly are looking to make a change. Despite fielding a fairly decent roster heading out of the off-season, the addition of Licorice will undoubtedly go a fair ways towards improving the roster’s chance of becoming competitive.

Dignitas barely missed out on a deeper Playoffs run after finishing 5th in the LCS group stage, falling to eventual winners Team Liquid in 3-0 fashion. Coach Ilias “Enatron” Theodorou is also set to depart from Dignitas, paving the way for a fresh start for the team come Summer Split.
